well what a pain in the ass. I replaced the clockspring but that did not fix the cruise. Now what? I guess its possible the actual switch on the steering wheel is bad. When I turn the cruise on by pushing the button it lights up but maybe the button for "set" is not working. Anyone have any other ideas?

I really feel sorry for you, but look at the bright side, you don't need to worry about the clock spring anymore. Now before you go and change the button assembly, find a friend who has a Tech 2 and let him check the button assembly for you. The Tech 2 will tell you the actual status of the button if it's on or off.
The two last possibilities that you have on your truck are the BA and the cruise control module. Checking the module itself is a pain in the ass and needs a specialist to do it, and I can't tell you to buy the BA as the module might be the culprit. I wish you were near to connect my scanner on the truck and relief your agony.

well that is the bright side lol, I DONT have to worry about the clockspring. It really isnt that bad but to get the plastic cover off of the steering wheel base took a special socket for a male end star bit. Never seen one of those and the socket kit was $65. So roughly over $200 into something that was not a fix. Also sliced my hand pretty good in the process, thats always fun :). I dont have any friends with a tech 2, so I just ordered a new switch from amazon for $30. If this doesnt work its going to the dealer.

My (new to me) 2007 Tahoe LT doesn't have a functioning cruise control but with what I have read here on the forum, I narrowed it down to a faulty brake switch. I played with the switch for a while and even took it apart. But, most of all, when I went for a test drive, I lifted up the pedal with my foot and pressed the set switch....VIOLA!!! The green light came on the dash and the speed held until I let the pedal fall back down.

Thanks everyone for the information!!!!!

Maybe this is a dumb question, but have you checked that your tail/brake lights are working properly? It is a standard safety feature that if a brake light is out, cruise will not work. Even a partially dim bulb will prevent it from working.

yes I checked them way back when I replaced the brake switch. I have since replaced my clockspring and the switch on the steering wheel. I have had the cruise work a few times but is very inconsistent. Might work once out of 50 tries. Its just going to have to go to the dealer when I get time.

well for an update I finally did get my cruise working and it was just dumb luck I guess. I just finished the weekend replacing lower ball joints, all air ride shocks and pump, cv axle, and put a new hub/bearing on the front D/S. I had already replaced the passenger front hub/bearing a month ago as it was pretty bad. Got her all done and took her for a ride and BAM the cruise works. Absoutely freaking amazing!!! Must have been the bad hub/bearing but the thing that I dont understand is why I never got an ABS or stabilitrak light on my dash? Well hopefully this will help others with cruise problems and no idea whats causing it.

well another update. Hopefully this helps others with cruise issues. My cruise worked great for a few days and then quit again. I drive alot of highway and noticed my D/S front wheel was shaking a little around 75mph. I have replaced everything up there so it had to be the wheel. Took it in to get the alignment and wheels balanced. Cruise works again. I cant believe an out of balance wheel would cause the cruise to not work. Then I installed my brake controller for pulling our RV this summer and now the cruise quit working again, UGH! Damn cruise!! I have to have wired something funky cause the brake controller light is on all the time.

The new brake switch fixed mine. Gotta love the search function. Bump for anyone else having problems with the cruise control.

My 2011 Yukon is doing this.

Is the brake switch a common part to go out even this new?

It's a quick and easy thing to try. My light would come on on the steering wheel but not on the dash. I got mine from oriellys for I think $15 or so. It was AC delco. Hope this helps.

I've replaced two brake switches in the past 2 years. The last one I replaced looked fine when I took it apart as well. New one is in and everything is working fine again ....for now.

Just ordered this one today.

There are two part numbers floating around out there.

This is the new one.

It also fixes the condition of light pressed pedal and the lights turning off

Did this same thing last week. Cruise light on wheel would come on but it wouldn't engage. $16 from Autozone and I had the replacement in within 15 minutes.

Works like a charm now.

Thanks. This worked for me. Even thought i looked in the side the old part and didn't see much corrosion.
