Considering selling my Tahoe

Hi all, I am considering selling my Tahoe. I am a full time student with no stable income, and even though i love the truck to death, im thinking of selling it to buy something a bit more efficient. i am going to post an ad on craigslist, but i thought i'd see if anyone on here is interested, and i wanted to post what my ad will look like. Since im kind of "testing the waters", i thought i should post this here in the general forum rather than the classifieds, or am i wrong?

Kelley blue book says even with the high mileage, the truck is worth about $6500, and with all the mods and work put into my truck is $9k too much to ask? i thought id start high and haggle a bit, but i think $9k is pretty good considering what shape the car is in and how well it runs. The only thing it needs is an alignment... the tires are fine and straight, but the steering wheel is off center and has a bit of play.

If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions, or if you are interested in buying it, let me know! Thanks all!

and I would expect offers around $6k or less...honestly the mileage hurts you most and mods actually hurt value not enhance it (because ppl think a kid beat on it etc)

everything was installed by a professional mechanic. none of it is loose or jerry-rigged in any way. should i add that to the ad so people dont think its some badly done truck? The tires are also in great shape as well... like 30k miles left before they need to be replaced.

Hoe looks to be in great shape. Like Heath said, you may be hard pressed to get $9k, though, mainly due to the having that kinda mileage on it. People get scared away by high mileage especially the ones that don't really know what to look for when scoping out potential mechanical failures.

i agree. getting that kind of cash with high miles, no matter how well it's taken care of, people use that as a tool to talk you down. when i had my lexus, KBB was almost $9. but best offer i had was $6500.

unfortunately, if you are seriously selling, you might be better off taking your add on's off & sell those separately.

I agree also, you'll unfortunately probably get offers of $5000 cash. Here's the thing I tell people all the time when they wanna sell their SUVs for something more fuel efficient. You really have to do the math to see if its really worth it. You'd be amazed how long it takes to make it worth it buy a $15-20,000 car just for better mileage. Especially if the Tahoe is paid off, that's no payment right there. Just saying. Now if your gonna take the $5000 and buy a $3000 Saturn, ok. That would be worth it.

the cars i am interested in are under $10k. there are some mini cooper s's and srt4's in my area for $6-9k, and if i could get like 6.5 or 7k for the tahoe, i have some extra cash and i could haggle down on those cars for a better price too. it is worth it for me at the moment to get a more efficient car. i hate the fact that i dread driving because the tahoe gets not so great mileage. part of me also wants a new (to me) car for the new experience of it. i just had it at 9k to see what people thought of the price, and to start high because i know people will offer less. I also thought people on here might be interested in it or know someone who is and you guys know what these about these trucks and what these trucks are worth and what the mods done to it are and how much value they add both performance and $$$ wise. Id rather sell it to someone on here who i know will take care of it.

i commute 48 miles a day with my Hummer H2 to school. gas sucks but i love the truck to death and i would never be able to sell it and drive some tin can just because it saves me money on gas. sorry to say but 200k you wont see 9000. ive had my 03 for sale for a month on an extremley busy gas station for 8000. it had 129k on it fully loaded truck absolutley no issues and i couldnt even sell it for 8. i wound up selling it for 6

$9 was just a high mark to see what people thought. like i said, if i could get around 7 for it, id be ok. and about driving some "tin can", it seems like you have a lot more cash flow than i do, and can afford better (and multiple) vehicles. its crappy of you to look down on people with less money and call their cars "tin cans". All the cars i said i was interested in are respectable vehicles. To each his own, if you love your truck and dont mind spending the cash, then thats your deal, but id rather get something more economical so i dont feel like im blowing all my money in gas every time i wanna go to the store. like i said, it seems like you can afford to drive to school, and good for you, you probably worked hard to be where you are, but im not there yet.

on autotrader in my area, and in the whole country, there are stock tahoes with 240k+ miles going for 6k right now. these cars will always be popular, so people will buy them. they have a lot of resale value. I'll probably start high at like 8 or 8.5 and come down until i start getting offers and calls. We'll see how it goes.

Regarding your options for replacement vehicles, if you are a student and seriously dont have much money, stay away from the european cars. Mini Coopers are fun, but they are expensive to maintain. Their insurance costs will be higher. Just some experienced advice, if you want something more reasonable cost wise, then buy a Honda Civic, or Toyota Carolla, or somethng similar.

Insurance should be cheaper and so will gas. Otherwise, if you can, get a job (or higher paying job if you already have one, or another job) to help pay the costs. But your best bet is to get an inexpensive japanese car or american car. It wont be sexy, but it will stretch your pennies further.

I actually don't have most of the stock parts. The only stock parts I have still are the exhaust manifolds. But the stock exhaust i recycled and ypipe with cats, intake box and sway bars have been sold. It would cost a lot for me to try to find parts and have them reinstalled.

I've already asked my insurance agent and the mini is actually a bit cheaper per month than the Tahoe. My mechanic is actually a Mercedes specialist and knows European cars. I kind of have my eyes fixed on the Mini, but im also looking at Cobalt ss, SRT4 neons, Jetta 1.8t, sentra spec v, and corolla xrs. My parents have 2 corollas, an 05 and a '13, and i dont fit in either of them too well (im 6'5"), and i read online that Mini's are very spacious for tall people, and the review was by a guy who was 6'11".

and with the price, like i said, im going to bring it down until people start asking about it. I have already brough it down to $7500 on Craigslist. If someone on here is interested, or knows someone who is, Im more than willing to negotiate. Ill gladly come down if someone shows real interest.

hey daused,about to grab a 2001 tahoe in great condition fully loaded with 66k miles for 9g.Hes had it up for 6 weeks on autotrader and craigslist and only one other guy out of state showed interest.Im guessing you will see 5k or even 4500.As far as youre choice for vehicles,the v dub had turbo issues and people report that its inpossible to erase check engine light ,the mini has bad tranny issues,the vspec is of terrable quality,and the neon or cobalt I dont know much about,however my buddys 07 cobalt was not good.The corrola xrs is in a class of its own and you will be lucky to find one.All the cars you mentioned are cars ive thought about getting in the past.Good luck with sale I love that color!!

i did my mpg calculations on a trip to vegas in august and i got 18.5 mpg, mostly highway and who knows how the valets drove it, so there are some variables. the srt4 gets better than that city and much better freeway. i also want the mini the most because it gets the best mpg from the cars im looking at and it gets good reviews for space for tall people. as as for the 91 octane thing, i have the BB 91 tune, so im used to that. plus isnt 91 better for your car? burns more completely right?

Lowered the price down to $5995. I've gotten a few offers for trades, but for other SUV's like Mercs and BMW's, which I'm not interested in. Am i still asking too much? I put that I'm open to negotiations.

Why not keep the truck and buy a 60 mpg motorcycle for your commute with your extra "trading up" cash? seriously, these trucks are a tough sell right now due to gas prices. There are probably a bunch in your area with less miles that aren't selling either.
I will reiterate what others have said, the mods you've made aren't helping the cause. Except for the bigger swaybar, all of them are a turn off for me - but then I'm old.

I get a consistent 13 mpg with my Denali. My dad and I have run numbers on newer pickups with smaller v-8's (in the 18mpg range). Even at a generous 5 mpg difference, plus title costs, plate cost, insurance, and sales tax, it will take you atleast 1.5-2 years to really break even. If the Tahoe is taken care of as well as you say, I'd say your stupid to get rid of a vehicle in "great" condition. It is not worth it in the long run unless you drive a crazy amount of miles each year. Keep your Tahoe, maintain it and drive it. It's paid for. Do you really wanna take on a car Liam during college, that will most likely last al through college? Why not just drive the Tahoe for free and gas and save your money towards a house? Food for thought...I'm 18 and was in the same boat. A paid off car is a good car.

I think the truck will sell for 4500 MAYBE 5000.If youre looking to sell then just keep lowering price untill you generate interest.glws
