Hey All -

Does anyone else have issues with the Stock Nav unit being very noisy? It sounds like a servo noise and constantly seeking the disc for something. I made sure the Nav Disc was clean but it didn't seem to help.

If it's normal, I'll just let it be. Otherwise, I'd like to make a stink at the dealer before the warranty is up.

It is supposed to only do that for about 2 minutes right after you open a door or unlock the truck. If the noise is still there while driving I would get it looked at.

OK. Will do. Thanks for the response.

I really think it has to do with the XM Traffic option. When the service was stopped due to crappy XM customer service (don't get me started), it didn't seem too bad.

Now it's constantly "chatting" again. It also seems to take a long time to respond between button presses and "searching route" after entering an address.

What year model do you have? If you have an outdated nav disc, then updating to the new one might help, because the newest disc speeds up the system.

Zach -

I really appreciate your help today. I've been a member of the site for a while now but only lurking. I don't have enough posts to PM or ask for assistance from the "Nav Disc" thread. I've been thinking of just calling GM and paying for a replacement.

I have a 2009 Denali with the original disc.

Oh. And I was wondering if the new software included performance updates. I will look in to trying to get a new disc if you think that'll help.

Thanks again.

I don't think you should spend $200 on it though, nav discs are NEVER worth that much. Maybe you should contribute here some more and you might end up getting it for free. :D

Yep, I know. I need to spend more time on here. I used to be a fairly active member on the "old" board but when the crap hit the fan I sorta lost interest. I roam here from time to time but don't post (obviously).

I spend a lot of time on grrrr8.net and g8board.com for the GXP. I'll try to hang out here more.

Thanks for the suggestions / help.

As an update, I was able to get a hold of an updated nav disc and it did seem to help. Button presses "seem" quicker and the chatting has been minimized somewhat.

I'll continue to listen for it. I have about 8 months left on the warranty, I think.

The noise is back and loud as ever. The bad part is my warranty is now up (mileage). I'm about to rip the dash apart and lube up the servos, call the dealer, or replace the whole thing but somehow retain the rear entertainment and rear controls as well as the steering wheel.

Frustrated.

:)
