Planning to build a simple trunk size lightweight plywood box about 3ft tall (to avoid side plastic panels damages/scratches ) and hinged door to open over the rear bumper when it is open for loading and unloading without scratching the door sill and bumper. Light weight and easily put it in or remove whenever needed. I had one with my kia and was highly effective.

Plywood quality these days leaves a lot to be desired.

Dont go with roofing or decking grade. Go with cabinetry grade birch or primed prefinished sanded boards. Bit more expensive but holds pretty nicely and looks great too.
