transfer case won't shift, everything replaced

Truck would not shift, Got stuck in 2x4 or 4x4 auto. Related everything, some twice. Took it to a shop, they said bad shift motor. Prepacked again, I first put on a Cardone, Second was a Dorman and it is on it now. New, diff solenoid, New dash switch(lights flash with the key but does do anything else and no lights stay on. Tried another controller not much difference, put old one back on, Fuses on both panels good. What am I missing, Hot wire?, Ground? Some reset?
The shop said I had a 904 code I think, and my Cardone motor was bad in the box, Do not believe that is the case now. What do you know?

you need a scanner instead of throwing parts at it, the scanner can command the 4wd and show you any error code
without a scanner it's a guessing game

Hell, I guess I am just getting too old. I could not follow the path of what was done and why. Yes on the scanner. No on the parts cannon.

worked fine, Quit working and was stuck in 2x4. then got ***** and was stuck in automatic 4x4, Then back in 2x4 and so on. ended in 4x4 automatic. Changed out swithc, Module, motor, and finally the solenoid to the diff, One at a time. Early on when replaced the control module I tried battery...
