I am considering adding a remote start to my truck. Would I have to go an aftermarket route or is it already wired for a remote start from the factory?

If it is not already wired, which aftermarket remote starts are recommended? and would it mess with anything, like a BB Tune?

Do you have the original key fob to test if you already have factory remote start?

I found this thread on the12volt.com which mentions some Tahoe's did not come with factory remote start:

If you decide to install remote start on your Tahoe, I'd recommend a quality name brand (Viper, Compustar, Avital). You will need a bypass module as well as the alarm/remote start unit.

Here is the wiring for your Tahoe:

And here you can find a few of the Tech Docs for your install:

you should already have a stock remote start installed in your vehicle. As long as your check engine light is not on it should work.

To remotely start a Chevy Tahoe with a key fob, you can try the following steps if your vehicle is equipped with remote start:
  1. Ensure you are within 200 feet of your vehicle.
  2. Press the lock button on your key fob.
  3. Within five seconds, press and hold the remote start button, which looks like a curved arrow, for at least four seconds.
  4. If successful, your vehicle's lights will flash and the engine will start.

remote start has been around a long time, 2007 should certainly have it, if not there are plenty of aftermarket solutions ranging in price from cheap to costly
if there is no oem remote start then not sure what all would be required to make it factory, I would assume at best a module, fob and sps programing. ($45) as long as you have a pc and pass-thru device.

4 years old, the option today seems to be the Start-X. No AP8 rpo code required. Plug and play. Available on Amazon. The GM oem kit is pushing $700 just for the parts.

Me too! On my 2012 LS. How do I go about finding out if I have "factory" remote start? Key fob says no. Check rpo?

I am being told if you have RPO code AP8 then your vehicle is "remote start ready". You would need a remote start FOB and take it to the dealer to for the function to be enabled in the BCM.

Damn I wish I say this a few days ago. I jumped off a cliff and went with a kit from Crutchfield.

Fortin is almost plug and play. And you won’t have to visit the dealer.

Ive had mine for like 6 years and moved it along 3 different gm trucks.

You will need access to a windows computer to program it , but it’s simple and retains factory fob.

This kit requires some minor splicing. But the one you linked to says not needed. I may return this and try that one instead.

Ha if you get it, let me know how it goes! I thought $180 all in was pretty good. No computer, keep your fob, no AP8...
The reviews are good, there is some minor programming required but I think it's just a sequence of pressing buttons, etc. no computer.

Yeah I'll report back either way. I know I want to get this done ASAP so I'll probably stick with the one from Crutchfield. I'll let you know how it goes.

The Crutchfield install was a JOKE. DO NOT GO THAT ROUTE. I am returning that clusterF setup and will be trying the Amazon kit you posted. Stay tuned...:mad::mad::mad:
