LargER L59 V8 oil filter part number

Typically I mix'n'match whichever brand motor oil happens to be cheapest, but only if it's 0W30.
Yday my Tahoe told me to 'Change Engine Oil', just shy of 4,000 miles. Next time I'll change @ 3500 miles.
I am vehemently against using a tiny oil filter. I'd much prefer to use one with extra oil capacity.

Ok if I ask for some part numberS for larger oil filters for my Tahoe's L59?
Since I no longer drive very aggressively, my guess is 0W30 & changing oil and filter more often is more important than using THE ULTIMATE oil and filter, which is why I'm asking for part numberS.

Read something like this a few times:
GM changed the ACDelco oil filter thread design for Gen 4 V8 engines.
Gen 3 V8 PF46/PF61 used SAE thread. For Gen 3 PF46 is short, PF61 is longer.
Gen 4 V8 PF48/PF63 use metric thread. For Gen 4 PF48 is short, PF63 is longer.

Does that seem right?

Your L59 takes a filter with SAE threads: 13/16-16.

Would someone mind educating me on this, please? Why is having a bigger oil filter better? Is it because you can go longer between oil changes? I get that a bigger filter can filter more oil at once due to greater surface area. Anyway, thanks.

Well since the filter media is the same density/micron rating in both the long and short versions of the Delco filter, more surface area allows it to flow more easily through the filter. You aren't really getting more life per se, but maybe better flow (through the filter) at the same oil pressure.

Would a 2002 Suburban 2500 (/3500?) with a 6.0L,
share its same oil filter with a 2002 Suburban with a 5.3L?
Or would it use a different one?
If different, HOW SO?

Based simply on Wix offerings by Rock Auto, the 5.3L engine would use the 51042 (or 51042XP) short filter, while the 2500 6.0L would use the longer 51522 (or 51522XP).

I elect to use the 51522 longer filter on my '04 5.3L, just to have more media. My oil change intervals are 5k miles. If I wanted to use synthetic media I'd use the long XP. I don't see any reason to use the shorter filter in mine.

Yes. If you look at the WIX site for oil filter specs, The ONLY difference between the two, is length. I have used both with absolutely no problems.

Also, look up your own parts and tell them what you want and not what they suggest.

I look up everything, except for whatever help I need from @915_Tahoe, because I pay attention to any footnotes and sometimes the parts counter person doesn't. I can tell them K1500 and they will say, "2wd or 4wd?" I look up at RA, O'reilly, Napa, AZ....etc. I do cross refences and also use manufacturer's oe sites. When I am going to work on a vehicle, I ask for year, production date, VIN, make, model, 2wd, 4wd, awd, fwd, rwd, auto or manual, coupe or sedan, suv/mpv, country made/asssembled and certain RPO codes....etc. Because I know all that is in the footnotes.

'if I do that, you'll give me the shorter filter, and I want the longer one,
so please stop asking me about my vehicle and gimme a'

Fram ............. xx3675 (haven't yet figured out which Fram version is good enough ...)
Mighty ........... M159 (these are not bad actually, but only mech garages have them)
Mobil1 ............ M1-206 (like these, but they're never cheap)
Purolator ........ PBL25288 (NOT 25288)
QuakerState ... QS3675A (haven't yet figured out which Quaker State version is good enough)
Wix ............... 51522XP (NOT 51522)

It's actually easier to ask for the oil filter for a Suburban 2500.

If only it were that simple to find out which GM OE torsion bars I can upgrade to ...
