So long story short- transmission was starting to go out at @ 98K miles. All signs were pointing to a TC failure. I ended up purchasing a Circle D TC with a factory stall. This is my DD so i just needed it to run. Part came in and i dropped it off at my transmission shop. When the mechanics opened up the tranny- there was no point in just replacing the TC, so i had the transmission rebuilt with the Circle D TQ. When I got it back- it drove like a champ for almost a month, then one afternoon on my return from work, Transmission was making a funny sound and seemed like 5th gear was gone. It was still under warranty and so shop took the tranny back down an the higher gear clutch packs were burned. Their diagnosis was that it was the TC. Called Circle D and they were great. i needed to send them the TC unfortunately which meant i would be without my DD, so i had to buy another TC. This one worked out great. I sent the Circle D TC back just so they could look at it. They ended up repairing it and sent it back to me, which i will be selling at some point.

So if I'm understanding this right, a problem in the torque converter caused the clutch packs to burn up? @NickTransmissions Nick, ever heard of this?
Sometimes, when a customer supplies parts, the cluster eff like this can happen.
This can happen if the TC's converter clutch apply piston is not functioning and the TC continues to slip, building heat outside of the design limits...That said, it's super rare and usually impacts all of the applied elements in the case, not just one. But the 4-5-6 clutch is very vulnerable and if not set up correctly or if TBV equipped vehicles experience a failure in the thermal bypass valve, the 456 clutch usually pays the price.
Glad Circle D Spec will warranty it but sucks to have it happen. Unfortunately no one (person or company) is perfect.
100% - and I don't warranty my work against parts defects if the customer provides the parts and won't even take the job if the parts are Chinese or otherwise consist of brands I have never heard of before.
