Just wanted to share some of the observations I made during my search to cure my Motor Mount blues....and which style and manufacturer I ended up settling on, and why...

About two weeks ago I finally got the nerve to make the TCC Lockup changes I shouldve made a year ago with my HP Tuners software. On the test drive I get stuck behind a Big Rig at a stoplight. In order to stop him from preventing my rapid moving up through the gears, I let him go when light turn green. There was nobody behind so I let him go a long way, and then he signaled that he was turning right onto the Interstate access road. So I floored it!

As I was approaching that access road intersection I saw an Explorer coming down off the access road and looking as if he was going to potentially turn right on red, which wouldve been particularly bad for me during my launch off the light as I was traveling straight through the intersectoin. So I drifted left into the crosshatched yellow paint just in case and kept the hammer down....and when I did I discovered: a double set of whoops(sorry former motoX guy)... I discovered two well spaced low trajectory jumps! Hitting the first at WOT while at 45-50mph basically unloaded and reloaded my Z55 suspension just in time to hit the 2nd... Which I can say gave me all 4 tire lift.. May have only been 2-3" but still lift. Truck landed smooth as silk but as Z55 bottomed out I felt a second thud... Felt it in my feet... It was heavy and had a thick metal to thick metal feel. 1st thought was trans mount... Then on remainder of 3-4min drive home I was able to replicate it fairly easily.. Conclusion: Either I broke my left motor mount during my wanna be Trophy Truck moment or it had been broken and I just hadn't noticed??
Spent the next couple days researching on here for best replacement, etc... L had kind of settled on the H3 mounts. However I couldn' get them for anything close to reasonable. Then thought of my future BIG plans for this truck and decided I should go urethane, despite all the concerns over excess vibrations at idle?

Looked and looked and looked. Only real options I saw where fab'd by desert racing shops and were $360+ ......about the same as a few of the GM parts and/or Hummer H3 mounts....Worse I was having trouble confirming that the lesser priced factory options weren't just another hydraulic crap turd that has failed too many in too short a time...
Then I stumbled across MetalTek. Small company out of Southern Michigan. Dude even gave out his personal number on his website, AND answered on the third ring.....and 9:35pm!! Very nice guy Turns out it's just he and his son that do all design and fab work. Said his son has actually become the superior welder, so he handles all the beads.
They have built several race and "spirited cruisers" on the GMT platforms, currently racing a turbo 4.8L GMT800... So at a minimum they have fine taste in sporting trucks and SUV's lol...

My order processed late on the 11th.

I asked what the expected turn around would be to fab these....Jamie says...."ehhh prob be a week". I say "sweet deal, thanks and let me know when you get them moving my way."
Fast forward to last night when we get home from Pittsburgh and there they are leaning on my garage door. He cut the pieces and had welded it all together in one day! No lie... The shipment left Mich on the 12th and arrived here on the 14th at 142pm..

They do come bare steel, however I should be just fine using my newly acquired(yeaterday) powder coating system on them!

I'll update in a couple days on how difficult/easy they were to get in?? But I have to say(pre-install) if you too are looking towards the Urethane option over OE......
Check out Jamie over at MetalTek and his family owned and operated fab shop:

Nice! Let us know how they turn out! Looks to be a good $200 cheaper than similar options! But needs paint.

Yes, will do, and thanks Mike! You helped me realize I forgot to link the pics of the actual mounts lol

wonder if he's make some rubber inserts for them. I got no need for poly, but I agree 600+ for h3 is annoying. even if I have the money haha. I still haven't replaced my drivers side.

Nice find. Oh well, my AtomicFabrication units were installed long before this post - no sense in changing them now. But good to know there is a cheaper option out there. Wonder if they would do the 1/2 lower like AtomicFab does...

Good question....I'm sure he would give you the answer

Not sure if this design would be best for rubber though?? Someone please correct me if Im wrong, but Im of the belief that urethane's benefit vs rubber is the ability to provide equally adequate shock absorption in a smaller package? -or- more absorption in the same size package?

That said (with a question mark at the end)....I would think you could find rubber bushings that will fit in the space occupied by the urethane in these if you were set to use only rubber. May not last as long? but could be done

I'm sure he would, at minimum, discuss it with you... Does it offer benefit over this design??

Shop just put in Anchor Industries ANI-3211 mounts in my truck....$483 from Summit....part of larger DOD order. They found the drivers' side mount coming apart....it was not a hydraulic mount ???

That’s common. One side goes bad. The dealer verifies 1 motor mount is $850 installed. Customer runs away to an Indi tech and gladly pays $400 for just one generic, non hydraulic mount.

The new mount takes a beating because the other mount is tired and then lasts 1/3 or 1/2 as long as it should if both mounts had been done.

BTW it looks like the brand your shop used is a US based Buss in OH. They may even be made in USA.

With Poly / Urethane and rubber it’s based on Shore hardness. For isolating movement like a sway bar bushing, Poly is unrivalled. If Poly is used in a tie rod end, strut bearing, strut bump stop, A arm bushing it isolates movement but also transmits vibration.

The rubber is needed in the above parts because its Shore hardness absorbs the energy (vibration) vs transmitting it to the vehicle.

Just imagine driving on Poly tires vs Rubber.

After seeing this I too bought a set of these and I’m definitely not worried about breaking them like the factory mounts. When idling I do get a minimum vibration but after a week of driving I don’t notice it anymore. He was a nice person over the phone & was quick to build and ship them. I’m very pleased with them. Wish he made transmission mount but he wasn’t interested in doing that.

My main concern about the poly is heat resistance near the exhaust...
Just make sure to use some sort of heat shield where the new mounts
are near any exhaust. It would be nice if there were a grease zerk to be able
to lube them up with silicone based grease occasionally. I found out years ago
on my GMT400 with poly A Arms to NOT use standard grease gun grease..
It ate up my sweet poly bushings in about 2 years of limited use.
So always use the super expensive silicone on all your poly bushings !!!

Fitting could definitely be added to these.. Drill & tap

Good Advice!

Update: Still not installed lol.... Have to do it soon, I have another off-road event the 27-29th

How are these holding up for you guys? I’m planning to order a set and swap them when I do the struts. They look like they will hold up much better than the stock mounts.

I did my hydraulic mounts at 85,000 miles. OEM replacements, no harshness, no vibes. Nothing. I'll be happy for another 85,000 miles, rather than attempting to out-do GM engineering. I foresee you guys sitting on a vibration platform bitching about the harshness.
You realize which subforum you're in, right? Most of us have lowered trucks with uprated mounts for handling; a little NVH never hurt anyone.

Good luck with the thought that GMs engineers are infallible.

Mine are trashed at 55,000 miles. With a lightly modified 6.2 and a lead foot, I’ll tolerate the extra NVH for more durability.

Sorry man... For some reason my little bell up there in the corner only shows me "some" of the reactions and replies.. I've been running the driver side only for several months now... And had been doing so without ever putting any kind of finish on it.. Ironically, Sunday, I pulled it out cleaned it up and painted them both...
To answer your question, with only Poly and one beat down OE, I didn't notice any vibration. The mount, once gone over with a wire wheel, and the poly bush looked virtually identical to the unused passenger side mount...
