Have you priced flea market stalls for your new side gig yet? You can call yours 'We Be Tools And Shi..., er... Stuff'.

joe
I could not pass them up at that price. The seller was a former shop owner in town and he said he wanted them to go to me because I had offered to post a bunch of pics if I did not buy them, to help him sell.

And here I thought you were trying to sell the majority of your tools, due to health issues. What changed?
What changed? I decided to keep my tools and just be pickier and wait till I really was in a "health pickle" before I would sell them.

I will be selling the vast majority of these tools.

Sometimes, it's just nice to be nice to people.

And those 8 wrenches, alone, damn near make the deal worthwhile.

What helped also was the 3/8" Snap On split beam type torque wrench, in case, is like new. He could not find the 1/2" one. I may find it tomorrow when I strip out the tools.

He is also like me, in that he does not have Snap On air tools, except 1 of the 3/8" air ratchets. The rest are all Ingersoll Rand. He showed me paperwork for either new and when or rebuilt.

He sounds like a potential new breakfast coffee buddy.

LOL, it turned out that, for those 50 years I set alarm clocks, I was really a night owl. Now, I sometimes have to remind myself that 5 am is past bedtime.

He is in his 80's and has a hard time getting around now. He has them stored in the end of a 40' shipping container and he cannot even open the two swinging doors any more. He was a former shop owner in the area and still has his ASE Master Tech metal plaque attached on the underside of the top box lid so it shows when the box is open for business.

I have made him an offer and waiting to hear from him. I would be swapping in his Snap On tools for any of mine that are not Snap On and keeping what Snap On tools he has for some I do not have. I would then be selling the rest and boxes and hope to at least break even.
Wow, if those things could talk...it does make me sad too but they'll find good homes.

82 year old senior gentleman who offered them for $7K (which was a good deal), then said his bottom line was $5K. And then you lowball him at $4K. Well arent you a peach. In my neck of the woods that would be called senior abuse... SMH

I'm the same...I call it a curse. My limit is 3am unless there is a garage project involved. I've fallen asleep under the truck, so what?

I seem to've settled on 3am also. I feel really virtuous if I tuck in at 1 or 2.

It has no real bearing here, but I've always been able to sleep while sitting or standing [leaned against something]. I was a squad leader in bootcamp [meaning I marched at the front of a column], and marched in my sleep, some. I assume I stayed in step and in position, because I never got chastised for it.

Then our retiree can sell them to someone else...initial listing of 20k sounds like he had about zero other offers.
Anything is only worth what someone is going to pay for it.
Orvietvet is gonna take awhile to get his money back...

I went this morning and made 2 trips with 5 totes each trip and unloaded the hand tools and other stuff from the 3 boxes. The 82 year old is sharp but a little shaky. Like @Jetskier77 insinuated, the seller knew he was asking too much and went from $20k to $10k within 2 days because he had no calls. A lot of his stuff is SAE and harder to sell now. Like @OBSandaNNBS said, I will be a lot of time getting my money back, but I will and a little more. I will not have people beating my doors down to buy the tools. The stuff is old and been in storage at the front of a 40' storage container and the boxes and tools are filthy. I have some cleaning to do. It is also not gonna be fun to get the boxes on the trailer.

As much as I love the Good ole USA and despise Europe, my first thought was "SAE Ewwww..."
Just not useful unless you are a machinist or vintage car owner

Yea, any tech should have an assortment of SAE wrenches and sockets. It's a just in case because of older vehicles still on the roads. Hell, recently, I had to buy some special phillip screwdriver bits just for certain Japanese vehicles that use the special phillips head on some of their fasteners, like the MAF sensor.

Ha, funny, I just got my old man a set of Japanese "phillips" for Father's day, for his Toyota project. They look the same as ours, but aren't. These were Vessel brand and some of the nicest screwdrivers I've ever held.
