This confuses me, there was already a recall on it a long time ago, why do they have to announce it like it's a new thing?

the older recall was to put a fuse to protect the circuit incase of a wiring issue. the new recall is to disable the heated washer fluid option completely. which i have to agree. while its a nice feature its very dangerous and can set your vehicle on fire.

yea they were recalled but still said that cars that came back on the recal some fires still happend

Fire-prone wiper-fluid gear sparks GM recall

WASHINGTON – General Motors said today it was recalling 1.5 million vehicles worldwide to disable a heated windshield washer fluid system linked to fires, saying owners would get $100 in compensation.
GM said the system had been linked to five fires with no reports of injuries or crashes. The same system had been previously recalled in August 2008 for fires, with GM telling dealers to install new wiring.
The automaker said it had kept monitoring the HotShot system made by supplier Micro-Heat since the first recall, and received a report in June 2009 of smoke from the units. GM withheld payments from Micro-Heat after the first recall to cover its costs, and the company was forced to file for bankruptcy and liquidate.
GM said because Micro-Heat no longer existed, it could not provide an improved design again. For the new recall, dealers will remove the fluid heater and reroute some hoses.
The $100 “is for the loss of the feature, not the recall,” said Jeff Boyer, executive director of safety for GM.
The recall affects the 2006-2009 model year Buick Lucerne, Cadillac DTS, Hummer H2; the 2008-2009 model year Buick Enclave and Cadillac CTS; the 2007-2009 model year Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT, Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Acadia, Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL, Saturn Outlook and the 2009 model year Chevrolet Traverse.

I'd rather leave it in. It's a voluntary recall. If anything happens they can deal with my insurance while I can get a new one

My thoughts exactly, I love the heated fluid for ice and bugs. Def worth more than $100 bucks to me.

Was this an option on the 09 models or was it standard equipment? I can't seem to confirm if I have heated washer fluid in my z71. Thanks.

It'll be a windshield wiper looking button on the buttons inbetween the cigarette outlets

$100 is way too low in my opinion. I'll get mine done though because an insurance company can give you a bunch of problems if it does catch on fire and you try to claiim the damage. At least the subcontractor went out of business.

But have you gotten an official notice that it's been recalled? It's only a voluntary recall so it's not like Toyota...

I have not yet. I still don't trust lawyers even if it is voluntary. They are giving you the choice to do it or not but lets just say you decide not to and your truck burns to the ground. Now you send a claim to the insurance company for the value of your car. Lets just say about $40-50k. If the insurance company has a chance to bail out on that claim due to your neglect don't you think they would. Read your policy very careful. I believe it has a clause that says you must maintain it to GM standards. GM told you that a potential for fire exists and gave you the solution to prevent it.

Nube Here! been lurking for a while and saw this thread.

I wish they would reimburse me the $500 I spent to have this fixed after the first recall.

Either way, I think I will get mine fixed, didnt use it that much.
