Put the spare on the 2012. No idea how this got in there like this but we discovered it when we got back to our car after a high school art show. It hit the ground when oriented toward the bottom of the tire so I don’t think it was vandalism. I think it just got kicked up by the front tire and caught at just the right angle to get shoved through the sidewall.

Anyone ever done a mirror swap and made the temp/compass work? It lights up but indicates a open circuit. The Denali actually has more pins on the harness so makes no sense, wondering if I need to add a connection or swap pins?

I have no idea...... But your air freshener is empty.

( Do need a same-model, mirror to solve ? )

Well.... my mirror has been tilting down and I assume it is from blasting bass at it for 8 years, I was wondering around the junkyard trying to find another one and the ones with the temp/compass in them have the same connector, I plugged it in and it lights up, shows "west" and OC which means open connection, so I assume it is not getting the data from the bcm like the instrument cluster does. so just a matter of getting the data to it.
I guess i will need to look at a wiring diagram for a 2008 versus a 2012 and see whats up
always helpful though if someone else has already done it

I am reading that I would need to add a 2nd temp sensor which is easy enough but all the pins are occupied on the existing mirror without the display which makes no sense

the mirror harness on my 2012 wire colors don't correspond to anything I can find online, not even close other than power & ground....
Most online info says gentex mirrors use pins 6&7 for temp data, my harness has wires already on 6&7 I guess I need a mirror wiring diagram for a 2012 Yukon @mikez71 ?

that shows 6&7 going to object detection, which I assume is blind spot detection? but there is no indicator in the rear view mirror, that is only in the driver and passenger mirrors.
this vehicle doesn't have any kind of lane keep or any kind of camera for emergency braking, rain sense or anything like that at all.

***edit, looks like maybe DRC would be if it had the backup camera display in the mirror, vs it being displayed on my radio, in which case the wires are not in use and I can just connect a ambient temp sensor to them (guessing)

pretty sure i can do this fairly easily, I just need to go back out to the junkyard tomorrow and trace the harness in a 2013 that is out there down to where I don't have to tear up my headliner to tie in a ambient temp sensor.
all the other connectors are identical for a 2008 that I pulled the mirror out of

I've never seen a mirror without the compass display. 1st for me. Thought that was standard across the board.
they started removing them after or around 2010 (depending on the trim level), the k2's and t2's do not have a compass/temp in the mirror at all, based on the part numbers I started cross referencing. I assume that happened when they started putting the backup camera display in the mirror.
on my 2012 it's in the DIC, on the 2018 silverado it's on the radio display, but if you have android auto going then it's not shown either android dropped it a couple years ago and haven't brought it back yet.
if I try to tap into the existing temp sensor I guess it messes the ohm's up and throws the reading off by about 20deg, so I have to add a 2nd one, plenty in the junkyard so I will grab one today.

another thing they did was the early gmt900's 2nd row captains chairs had a adjustable headrest, at some point not sure what year yet they made the headrest larger and non-adjustable, sometime between 2008-2012, I am guessing 2010 when they made other changes. The only way to get the smaller headrest to work is to swap out the whole seat or maybe just the seat back.
And as already discovered the early gmt900's had tilting front headrest's, I haven't found any nice ones yet but I did find some nice non tilting headrest's that are "softer" feeling, the ones on my 2012 were pretty stiff

just little stuff I am finding different as these start to show up in the junkyard

Grabbed a ambient temp sensor and pigtail at the junkyard for $6 traced the blue&white wires up to the top of the drivers pillar where they make a 90deg turn towards the back. I can tie in right there. Couldn't find them at first because they are wrapped in shielded rf material separate from the other wires. Raining now...

The rear-view mirror is already too small, as is.
Agreed. If I didn't care about the functionality of the sunvisors, I'd have a 5-panel Wink in my Tahoe (and most every other vehicle).

If you've never experienced a Wink, they're incredible for situational awareness. Not being day/night or dimmable is a major drawback, though.
