This just happened to us on 9/22/24in our 2022 Yukon Denali. We were driving on an expressway and the car made a ding and then went into neutral. Error message on the screen said something about the car not being able to shift. We were fortunate to be near an exit ramp which was downhill and then coasted to a gas station, which was luckily right there. The car was put in park and we were unable to start it or change gears but the battery worked and we could not stop the display screen from going on and off. We had to call OnStar and had the car towed to a GMC dealership. This was in a different state from where we live. We had to stay in a hotel and rent a car to get home. Its been five days and we have no resolution yet. Fortunately we are under warranty. Let’s keep this going and let each other know what the problem is. From what I’m reading, this is not unheard of, I’ve read several other accounts. I’ve seen two other accounts of this on TikTok. I’m wondering if this could be a class action lawsuit in the making? This is a life threatening problem.

Did you get crank with no start when you got to the gas station? I wonder if you have a bad fuel pump control module (FPCM). That is what stranded me, and since then I've seen many other mentions of it. Fortunately the FPCM is a relatively easy fix, but the situation it puts you in is awful, I know from personal experience.

Glad everyone is safe. When a fuel pump cuts off, its a scary scenario.... Engine didn't have fuel or it seized !!! Its one of those scenarios. I think Seal Michael is probably correct on the FPCM.

Sorry about the Hotel and rental care expenses... well GM has to bear that (philosophically!). Its a shame we put faith in a new automobile and we have to deal with problems normally encountered in a high mileage vehicle.

@Gplan, are you saying "battery worked" because dash lights worked? Did the engine crank over but not start? No engine crank? Two different scenarios.

I had this exact same experience last Saturday while I was on vacation in Baton Rouge. I was doing 55mph, and my '21 Yukon Denali started acting like the gas pedal wasn't working for two or three light taps to maintain speed, and then the car engine just spontaneously turned off. The electrical was still on, so I shifted to neutral and coasted to the shoulder. Once stopped, the engine would turn over for 10 seconds, but it seemed like it wasn't getting any fuel. I tried multiple times, but I could never get it to run. I wound up getting rescued by family and leaving it on the side of the road for a tow truck to eventually pick up (long story).

Thank you so much for posting this story though. Because of you, I had the problem diagnosed before the Firestone shop opened Monday morning and immediately requested they find a fuel pump control module and replace it. Just a few hours later, and wouldn't you know, voila, it ran like new again. I called my local GMC dealer to let them know, and they said they hadn't heard of any issues with fuel pump control modules. The guy on the phone had little to no concern about something like this going out on the vehicle. If you ever hear of a class action suit or anything else in that regard, I'd like to know.

I'm mad as hell about this issue. This is the second time it has happened to me. First time was back in October because of a bad fuel pump control module. It just happened to me a second time and now the dealership is telling me I will likely need a new engine. I found two law firms looking into filing a class action lawsuit and have signed up with both of them...

My gmc Yukon xl ultimate just stalled mid driving on a highway. Mid drive engine shut off no error codes. Won’t crank won’t shift to neutral. Prior to this happening about 30 min I heard tapping almost like a small jack hammer sound when foot was pressed on gas.

One week prior we had the muffler replaced for grinding sounds above 1000rmp which we didn’t hear after it was fixed. One week to the date total engine just shuts off and had to be towed. ANYONE HAVE UPDATES?

Haven't seen any lately, but please be sure to come back here and let us know what the diagnosis is on yours.

I’ve had the FPCM go out twice - once while driving it. Could have definitely caused an accident.

One of the first post from Abbymor indicated he has a 2023 gmc Yukon xl Denali, so this means it has a 6.2l. Another 2023 or later model 6.2l failure!

The other concerning issue is his vehicle appears to have come from Canada and then brought into the US from the looks of his posts. When I was originally looking into used, low mileage vehicles, I found that because of the exhange rate and some other factors, there was a large inventory of vehicles in the US that had originally been sold in Canada. I think the Canadian dealers were making out by using the vehicles as Demo's then sending them to Auction in the US and making money?

There may have been some warranty issues on these vehicles, not 100%, sure but the more I searched and found Canadian delivered vehicles, I would immediately strike them off my search list because I did not want to find out if there were any If's, And's and But's with the vehicles that were originally sold in Canada then brought into the US with regard to Warranty coverage.

Sorry about that. Was viewing the post on my phone at the time and didn't recall the previous post.

I clearly understand. This is why I often search members prior posts to see what info I can find.

Unfortunately often times people do not provide enough details and/or have their vehicle info in their signature line.

And as mentioned on a phone or possibly a tablet, often the signature line does not even show up!

We had the engine seizure on our 2024 Denali XL. Towed to the dealership, needs a new engine. It’s been almost 2 months with no estimate on the new engine. GM corporate has denied our request for a repurchase or straight swap into a 2025 (13,000 miles and we’ve owned it for less that a year). I’m beyond livid with the entire situation. I refiled the requests with GM and I’m on my way to the dealership now to get new tags for the loaner (which they denied us at first but then realized they had to under the warranty).

Have you looked into your State's Lemon Law?

Research your state’s vehicle lemon law - do not think GM will help you with the issue. If you qualify, do not tell the dealer or GM customer service. File the action yourself or get an attorney.

Well….im kind of in a state of shock. I went up to the dealership today to swap the tags out on the loaner. As I’m walking out the door I decided I was gonna go tell the GM how unhappy I was with my entire experience for the last month and a half. He was very upset (or seemed so) that GM corp denied my requests and wasn’t handling the issue. After a couple of hours of talking and looking, he explained the Denali ultimate is in short supply in our location, but he offered they had the new AT4 Ultimates in. He brought one to the front, let me drive it and asked why I thought. I told him I liked it and if he do a straight swap into it with no money from me I’d take the car. He agreed to it. No loss of equity, no money from me.
