New 2023 Tahoe--Need reco on Add on CD Player

We just got them2023 Tahoe because our 1997 Yukon with 260K miles committed suicide in the street in front of our house when we went to take it to the dealer to get the new Tahoe. There is no CD player on the New Tahoe. Does anyone have a suggestion on an Add On CD player. We have been road tripping for 25 years and there is a little collection of CDs that we can't road trip without. I fear it will be bad juju to not travel with them. We have taken 1 quick road trip without them and we fought the whole time. Please give us some advice and save our marriage!

Welcome to the forum. I too can't remember the last time I played a cd - all our music has been ripped and now totally digital. I have a USB plug in in my glovebox.

You can play off USB, no problem.
The issue is if you have too much on one USB, the list shown on the infotainment is limited to (in theory) keep you from scrolling so much that you get distracted.

Net, there is no way to hook up a CD player in these vehicles.
Suggest either:
1) Rip the CD's and save them to a USB, that you leave permanently plugged in to the vehicle.
OR
2) If you have an Apple or Android phone, rip the CD's and save them on your phone (or if you have a music service subscription like Apple Music or Google Play, just download them), then use Android Auto or Apple Car play to access these albums.

You will quickly come to enjoy not having to eject and install cd's into the dash.

Anybody find a CD player that works with the 2023? I have a 2023 Yukon XL Denali. I tried one of the USB CD players from Amazon, but the Yukon would not recognize the device.

Don't want a debate on those who still prefer physical media, just trying to see if anyone out there has found a CD player that works with our rigs.

I bought a 23 Yukon Ultimate in October. While I mostly like the vehicle, I find the electronics pathetic. Since owning the vehicle, my wife hangs a ipad over the screen with a rubber band so our 3 year old can watch a video. I too have been trying to figure out a way to play videos on the “big” screen. You cant control the menu from the front so you cant use hulu to put on a show for my 3 year old. I guess yhe engineers dont want you looking at the front screen, but its more more distracting trying to see whats going on the back screen.

Amazon has some mini DVD players I was looking at so I can load a movie from the front seat… like it used to be.

I received my $30 DVD player from Amazon and it works fine plugging it into the HDMI port and powering it off the high voltage plug and now I know why they put the outlet in! It’s a great looking addition for $100,000 plus vehicle.

I understand DVDs are not that popular anymore but how do you keep a two-year-old entertained? GM engineers Need to think things through a little better My wife usually has to unbuckle her seatbelt and crawl through the seat opening to see what is on the display. That apparently is far safer than just displaying what is on the screen from the front.

Does anyone know if there’s an aftermarket way to display what is playing on the rear screens on the front?

if you want to start a new thread I can give some suggestions - but please stop knocking the engineers that designed this like they forgot to put wheels on the car… I have never heard of a vehicle at any price point where a front passenger can see the rear displays….

Really? The Yukon is a family vehicle and designed to be that way. I have two young children and neither one of them know how to enter user password and select a streaming service in order to watch cartoons nor do they own their own telephone where they’re able to plug into the HDMI port. In fact, they can’t even reach it from their car seat.

The high-tech rear seat entertainment system is useless for us. Maybe if you had teenagers it would be fine. I think the idea behind not putting video upfront is to not distract the driver, however when the passenger has to remove her seatbelt and squeeze between the seats to try to get the video to play for his child is really defeating the purpose.

these engineers need to test systems out in the real world not in a laboratory, I wonder how many of them took their family out on a vacation when doing testing. Engineer should receive this feedback for future vehicles.

Well, the Stellantis guys figured it out w/ a polarized coating on the front passenger display, they get a full LED screen in front of them and it just looks like shiny glass from the driver seat..so...there are ways to figure it out...just that GM didn't.

In Fairness, my kids are grown, and I (fortunately) could get a Denali w/ advanced tech package with NO RSE in 2022, you can't do that anymore.
But, my previous 2 suburbans both had factory RSE (DVD based), and the infotainment head unit, while it could not display the content of the video, it could be used to control the playback.
On the 2004, the DVD had to be inserted in the roof mounted player in row 2, in the 2013, GM figured out that the DVD player could be up front, in the infotainment system, and push the video to the 2 roof mounted screens.
Rear seat passengers had a remote in both vehicles and could control the system, or the driver or passenger could select tracks, play, pause, etc.
I used this feaure more than once to get the kids attention...amazing how fast you could squish a disagreement wtih a pause button up front.

So, I do think it was a miss by GM to not allow control of the RSE from the front seat...but I also agree that you cannot display video up there while driving, by law...(unless you do what Stallantis did w/ their Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer implementations for front passenger entertainment).

Or, you can do what we did on road trips when I was a kid...
Listen to dad's radio station, play count the cows, the license plate game, read a book, watch the scenery out the window, or play cards with your sister. Just sayin...

Have 5 kids 10 and under. I use the plug to power a Roku plugged into the HDMI port for the rear entertainment system. If you have a data plan, connect the Roku to the vehicle's wifi and you can stream as usual.

I only allow movies for longer drives so I don't pay for a data plan meaning I'm forced to rip media and put it on a USB stick plugged into the Roku and use the Roku's media player app to play the movies. My 10 and 8 year olds are old enough to have figured out working through the USB's folder system.

While I love not having to deal with physical discs, the lack of ability to control any media from the front seat (a la DVD controls) is a major downfall. Without older kids, I also would have been forced to climb in back to get a movie started. Would have been great if GM could have built in the dual functionality and put a blu ray player in the vehicle for those inclined to use it.

I’m not saying that they should connect the video to the front seats just that there needs to be a way to control the rear seat display. As said I have a newborn and three year old neither capable of reading or making selections. in my last 2013 Denali it had a CD player I knew exactly what was going to play when I inserted a disk. I could select tracks from the driver seat. Now I have absolutely no clue what’s on the screen behind me other than the kids saying it’s not working.

Does anyone know you can control menu in the backseat using a flash drive?
