Yep, thanks! I did see the Fitzall #T74498-1A. Not sure if that is the one you used.

It looked the most promising of the bunch, but unfortunately it's not getting here until the 10th or so.

So you have to drill out the nipple on the shift lever?

Yes, use a small bit, the metal is not hard so a regular bit works fine, just grab a pack of extra small cotter pins at either the hardware store or auto parts store
I bought this pack because had a selection of small cotter pins as well as other parts that come in handy sooner or later

Yes, I used a bushing and a c-clip that I had laying around. It's been working great for years

did you drill perpendicular into the nipple to make a hole for the cotter pin? Or did you drill parallel into the nipple from the back? See red lines

I just drilled right thru the nipple, just like it shows in my photo, I would put the fittings on and a washer if you are going to use one like I did then drill.
otherwise if you drill to far back on the nipple then the cotter pin will not go thru.

Just did this to the Yukon that came home from the motor swap. The cable had RTV - really old. I got the Dorman 14073 - Drilled out the old bushing with a 3/8 bit, as suggested on a Youtube video. the inner surface of that bushing locks into the groove on the lever. Feels good.

4L60, but same linkage. Remove the OEM nipple, drill, weld a shaft, drill for cotter pin and you'll never have an issue again. Shame on GM for saving .27 cents per vehicle on production.

It's awful. I fixed it on Friday just before the temps fell in NY. Now that I know how stupid the design is, I can't get it out of my mind. At the least, I'll drill out that Pin, and put a bolt thru it, with a lock nut, and maybe the cotter pin / Safety wire too. The last guy used RTV and zip ties.

Oh man ! That would work good just to keep in all the gloveboxes of my cars..
And great for my DragWeek Trips.

I looked on amazon and didnt find anything similar. Where did you get that pack ??
