Have you ever ridden in the back seat of your own vehicle?

As I was vacuuming the second row of the suburban a thought came to me that I had never ridden in these seats. I had no idea how they feel. I thought back and realized that I don't think I have ever ridden in the back seat of my own vehicles. Front passenger seat, yeah, ride along with a mechanic, but never in the back.

I use the second row to change clothes for outdoor activities when it’s very cold (second row buckets are great for this, snowy boots on the mat behind the drivers seat, turn 90* for dry carpet to put on a couple pair of fresh socks) and have used the third row as an office when I’m using the laptop in the garage or on the road, but I can’t think of a time where anyone else drove it while I was in it.

Just did it for the first time last Friday. Was surprised at the high seating position in the second row. My third row is always out. I need the cargo space.

I had a 2002 Tahoe with barn doors before my current Tahoe. I was at a favorite watering hole and two guys were buying round after round. I must have had 10-12 shots of Jim Beam, on top of the beer I had been drinking and then more beer after they left. A lady was in there that was a member of the bar's weekend band and I knew her. She was there with her 3 older kids. She drove me home with one kid in the passenger seat and me in the second row and was very drunk. The other 2 kids followed in the car they all came in.

So, YEA, I rode in the second row seat. More like was obliterated in the second row bench seat. Those days are over since I no longer drink.

When I was still living in Colorado, a bunch of us went to a Dead & Co. show in Boulder in our '07 and I got totally shit-faced. Our friend Hope doesn't drink so she got us all back to Longmont safely. My wife and I sat in the 3rd row and it was cool. I remember thinking I could easily ride back there on a trip. When we take long trips, our son pulls rank on his sister and gets the 3rd row to himself.

I’ll resurrect another old thread today. I went on a fishing trip with some friends. LONG drive from Michigan up to Canada, but due to the location we had to go down around Lake Michigan and up through Illinois a Wisconsin. So it wasn’t a straight shot east or north to Canada.
Initial portion I road shotgun, then did the night driving until first light. Had a 12 point jump out in front of me. Thank god I was paying attention, the 2-lane highway was dry and it was free of traffic. Needless to say, the other three passengers were now as awake as the co-pilot and myself.

After a week of fishing we headed home. I road in the second row captain chair initially (2hrs maybe), then took post in the 3 row for the remainder of the trip. It was nice to crash out back there during some of the rush hour construction traffic we hit on the way home.

I have since removed the 3rd row completely and swapped the 2nd row captains for a bench.

I sit in the front passenger seat from time to time when I give driving lessons.
Haven't yet sat in the backseat while anyone else drives, but I've spent time back there while the vehicle was parked. Prefer front passenger seat.

Most suspension evaluative engineers have heard stories about how several Lincoln Town Car evaluators spent more time in rear passenger seats vs driving.

No personal experiences with GMT420s or older.
With GMT820s GMT920s & GMTK2Ux (which all share the same 116.0" wheelbase), 3rd row is so uncomfortable as to be nearly pointless unless required.
With GMT830s GMT930s & GMTK2Yc (which all share the same 130.0" wheelbase), 3rd row is less uncomfortable, but still not close enough to comfortable.
Only took GM 18 years to figure out that the Forcoln Expedvigator did the right thing in 2003 with the independent rear suspension.

I sat and rode in the back seat of my 2020 Tahoe RST for the first time this summer. It wasn't bad but after about 20 min, we had to pull over because I was actually getting car sick. I have never had that happen to me as I travel often by plane and own a boat. Truly Weird:eek:
