Was taking the Hoe to MV, around the corner from my house I lost forward overdrive--wouldn't move in any other gears. Fluid is still pinkish/reddish, not burnt. Then it finally decided to move. Drove fine on the highway, so idk. I hope the transmission isn't calling it quits. No cel either.

A week or so, ago, I was doing a 'medium' acceleration / right turn on a 60mph highway. Outside my window I heard a high-pitch whine. Not loud, but I heard it..... It went away in 200 feet. I heard again for a moment, ...but I haven't heard it since then.... I wonder if the sound is a warning?

Yup, I'd definitely say it is. Checked your fluid level and color? How many miles?

Fluid / color good ( fluid-filter changed only 2 months ago when the rear main seal was replaced)
173,000 on the clock. ( I am not panicking...... my mechanic's dad is a transmission surgeon at his shop. ( the cost?..... It is, what it is )
Is it the stock trans? Ever been rebuilt before? If not they usually go around 150k.

Dumb question, but could it be the power steering pump? It just seems like what you heard is a symptom for so many different things that you wouldn't want to jump straight to the transmission.

Was thinking same thing, I noticed mine at a turn and found out it was low. I have a small leak somewhere.

I just go to Autozone and see what is recommended for my truck. We've had both Suburbans have Power steering pump leaks. My daughter and my wife learned how to keep them topped off until we could afford to replace the pumps. :) I thank God, every day, for my family listening to me on our trucks, even when they don't believe me. I think I have been wrong once, all kidding aside. Also, I've had lots of help from here.

Drove it. Had to swing by the orifice to do some yearend work, then got my ears lowered and ran some other errands. Topped off with E85 on the way home 'cause it's close to work. Last time it got mostly gas so the alcohol content was down to 51%, but this should bring it up a bit. The station I use is very consistent at 70% alcohol at the pump. Nice price differential:
