It could make it more stabile, but then you'll be adversely affecting your treadwear and creating extra drag. Toe basically introduces a minimal amount of tire scrub to use the friction as a control mechanism. Instead of reduced drag to allow free movement wherever (like on ice), the drag is a little bit of directional grip.
Right, so finding the magic angle to give you increased control without sacrificing treadwear is the key. I'll ride around for a few days at 3/4 turn and see if its any better, and if not go back to 1/2.

I thought about getting some of these, or the T shaped ones that latch on to your wheels, they are more expensive though.

Ahem... so.. what the hell.. I've used the spare tool kit before, and had no idea how to properly reinstall it, so took the time today to figure that out.. what a PITA.. I didn't get much done on the Civic head gasket today.. I did get it back from the machine shop, and she's all ready, but I spent all my time on the stupid tire, so she'll have to wait a couple more days.. (looking at 5 properties in Tx tomorrow via facetime). So anyway, thought I'd share a couple pics of how I think this goes back together.. I know that I'm not the only one to ever suffer trying to put these parts back together the way they're supposed to be.
when i bought mine the jack and all was just in the hole making noise, day two i put it all back in place. directions and diagrams are on the tag of the crank bars bag.

Cleaned up this round file I had, and stuck a couple rare earth magnets to the cam oiling hole. Seemed like I was gonna have to file it all the way down, then these chunks just broke loose. I'm sure the Truck Norris would have just given them a roundhouse kick, but I'm glad I got them out of there.
I'm gonna put a couple dabs of green loctite on the bearing before it goes in for its third time, hopefully I never need to take it back out...

So I got the spare installed, everything properly torqued, and went for a spin, to ensure all was well, and no issues.... Oh, then a rock found my windshield.
What in the world did you do to Texas to make it bite back like that? Hopefully it's happy with its pound of Tahoe and things start looking up.

I was expecting this myself, but mine only seems to outline the proper procedures for raising the vehicle, and swapping out the tire. Perhaps they changed these instructions over the years..?

Your truck is basically done-for, @Sam Harris, might as well give up on it so bring it over and I'll take it off your hands! ;)

Or I can pick it up.... and those parts that have been accumulating. :D
Yessir! Come on over, and pick up these boxes of things.. I guess I won't be needing them anymore.

Just rusted on the edges towards the bottom, underneath everything is solid. The body shop tech said since I'm keeping it, might as well go ahead and get them replaced. All new metal for rockers and dog legs. $4000 and change.
Mine does not need work on doglegs and a quote I got from a reputable local shop was $3500 just for rocker panel. Given the work to be done, I'd say your quote is really pretty reasonable!

I am stuck! I don't have $3k to drop on rocker panel repairs on my $6.5k Tahoe. I have to do something this year or next. I may look at slip-on replacement panels and a Harbor Freight welder. DIY won't be as perfect, but just something to keep it on the road another couple of years, when the loan is paid off and I am free to sell it.

I had thought about going that route, but after sitting down and talking with the girlfriend we both decided that we like it enough to keep it long term. Doing the "cheap" fixes only get so far. I have spent more money in the 2 sets of wheels and tires I've bought for this than what I bought it for. A newer Tahoe is upwards up $50k+ and we can't justify that kind of spending with four kids and a zoo at home (dog, cat, snakes, reptiles). Not knocking your choice, sounds like you're planning to get rid of it after a while. If I weren't keeping this one I'd skip the rust repair and just drive it.

Yeah. No worries. My Jeep had too much fail all at once. I didn't have the luxury of time to make the repairs or the money. I had to roll into another daily driver in a hurry! Used cars around $6-7k are usually still junk, but was the price point I had to stick to. I found my 04 Tahoe Z71 for $6.5k. Interior was one of the nicest i had seen on anything that old and with 186k miles on it. Mechanically runs like a champ. Smooth and reliable! Unfortunately the rockers were already gone and I am guessing there is hidden rust that I'll never be able to get ahead of. While it runs fantastic, seems to be reliable as heck as a daily driver, super comfortable and is fairly presentable still... I figure the body and frame may start unravelling faster than I can keep up with things.

I'll know more this summer, as I start to crawl around, inspecting more, brushing and painting things. I hope I can keep it forever. I really love it! In the meantime, I just have to do the best I can DIY and keep costs as low as possible. If I hit the lottery, I'll go looking for another totally rust-free rig and do some kind of build...

I'll post how things come out, if I tackle the rockers myself. Whenever that might be. Until then, the plastic Z71 trim panels have been doing a great job of covering things up, so I can pretend rockers are still there.

Unless you're completely opposed to doing body work, and if you determine it's worth saving, I say go for it. The experience gained from the body work and welding and satisfaction and pride of doing it yourself is worth it. Your rig is a basic white and not a metallic, so the painting aspect is even better for a novice/DIY'er. Plus you'll have a reason to add a new tool (welder) to your arsenal that I think any wrench monkey should keep around.

I'm gonna weld mine for sure, now that I have so much money in this thing. I have an old Lincoln stick welder, but I need to run the plug for it. I think I might be able to hook it up to the old storm shelter/shed power that got dug up. I've watched my dad's buddy weld in rockers and cab corners, but I have minimal welding experience, at least with thin material.

It was looking like patch panels are pretty pricey even for a diy
