Does anyone remember what factory shocks these trucks rolled off the assembly line with?. I have owned it since new, but have always just installed Rancho 5000s.

I want to apply for “Collector” plates now that it is 25 years old. It has to be bone stock to qualify. I am planning on doing diff fluid change, pressure washing the underside, and give it a coat of satin black on the frame. I thought that to be a good time to do shocks after. Thanks!

Plug your VIN in here and have a look:

Ranchos have been OE with the Z71 package for as long as I can remember. ACDelco shows OE strut and Gold and Specialty for the rears, avoid the Silver stuff.

Thanks @swathdiver! AC Delco it is! I’m retiring the Yukon as my daily driver. If I can get it in mint condition, “Collector” insurance in Canada is only $300 a year. So in US dollars that’s only $100. Lol. Thanks.

Does your Yukon have the Z71 RPO code? For the two door Tahoe and other GMT400 trucks equipped with that RPO, that included 4600 series Bilsteins which is what I replaced on mine.

I have a brochure for a 98 Sierra and their Z71 specified the same Bilsteins. The only GMC Yukon/Suburban one that I have is also a 98 (so no two door) and it didn’t differentiate. But, that line’s brochure was tailored to appeal more to The Hamptons, Eddie Bauer and Pottery Barn type crowd.

If I had to bet, if the GT didn’t come with the regular Delcos it came with the Bilsteins.

They don’t have the kits online for GMC, but this link is kind of neat. For $50, they offer to send you what they have on file, but an email to them may get you something for free if you’re really nice :)

Do you get to specify a replacement value?

On a different forum, I remember some poor soul that had to deal with the state insurance up there and they seriously undervalued his truck following a claim. But, there wasn’t anything that he could do about it since the government insurance is the only game in town.

Is that how it works up there?

That’s a good question! I will have to ask that when I am applying. The vehicle has to be all original. No dents, rust, interior rips stains etc. It has to be registered for pleasure use only, no commuting to work. I still have a lot of work to do!

Are you able to decipher the RPO code?

Since the Z71 was an option on the GT (and would have then had Bilsteins) your truck probably had the regular Delco shocks.
