Could we put all the buying, receiving and ordering posts in a separate category?

I don’t disagree but now I’m curious what entails “General Discussion” exactly.

As I noted in the TPW 4/11 thread, it would be great if someone could create an FAQ as a starting point for everyone to read and the mods stickied it to the top of the forum. We’ve seen tons of posts from people with a post count of 1 asking, “WHERE IS MY TAHOE?!! DEALER WON’T TELL ME ANYTHING!111!?!?!”

You don’t know what you don’t know, and there’s nothing wrong with asking, but it does get old and a bit depressing after a while.

It would be more aptly named "Sales" it is no more "General Discussion".

I would also ask that salesmen properly identity themselves.

I would’ve been a fan of this 20 years ago as a college kid, but behavior like that really doesn’t build a sense of community. :)

One way to nip it in the bud is when people register they automatically get the FAQ sent to them.

More to the original point, however, I think a Sales sub-forum might be interesting. People could put dealer reviews and experiences in there as well.

I think it’s hard to sticky any sort of main post that has all the information in 1 place because it seems everyone has a different experience. What happens to ABC doesn’t apply to XYZ.

And then you’ll have people complain because their expectations are going to be wrong.

If you ask me, but only if you ask…

The best approach would be to categorize everything into sub-sections within the forum. I’ve been in quite a few car forums through my days and all have been a bit “Interesting”. The only one that was broken down like this is camaro5.com.

Break this down to eliminate all the pointless debates about RWD vs 4x4; gas vs diesel; 5.3 vs 6.2…should I keep going? Oh yeah, almost forgot, Lifter section vs diesel and wont turn over.

Just my .02.

Doubtful, any changes like that would ever be made, just skip over such post's and carry-on
getting any new or old member to do anything specific is wishful thinking at best, the end result is typically frustration.

Here's an example from the HD Ram forum....let's just say it gets a little overwhelming...as it ends up being the "coffee shop" of the forum

There are a couple other sticky threads showing the build codes one can expect which is beneficial and then another one where they are tracking the user builds...that one probably doesn't make a lot of sense for GM since most are stuck at 1100

A sticky in General discussion makes sense... with the first post explaining the basics of ordering - then people can read and comment any questions on that thread...

Too many sub form = less traffic. Less traffic = less replies to threads in the correct sections, and thus people will post in the incorrect sections just to get a response.

The buying/ordering craze is a short fad and given the current economic climate, that will probably be changing very soon...

The ordering threads are all the same and redundant, I just ignore them no big deal. What’s depressing is watching every other 21+ owner breakdown, I can’t imagine having zero confidence in the reliability of the vehicle you just paid MSRP+ for.

We've (admins) have spoke about this. OVer the last week I've moved all the threads to their correct sections... so what else would go in "general section"?

I think we've come to the conclusion that there should be 1 main thread for constraints/restrictions and that would help a ton. The problem with making it's own section is after a few months or a year when ordering goes back to normal, that section is dead along with all the threads. Then you can't just delete it because of the google searches and traffic and such...

Geesh. We at least TRY to do a little work around here.

It would be nice if that were possible or at least merge all the threads into one. I barely got on here anymore because the only thing under the "new posts" link is a million threads about order status and feature constraints because of the chip shortage.

It will be addressed. But we couldn't really merge ALL the threads in to one, so you'd still see a bunch of threads.

So a lot of the BMW/Bimmerpost forums have a sub-forum for Ordering / Pricing / Order Tracking and they usually have threads about constraints in there.

Would suggest the admins discussing how to handle posts when someone asks the forum about a vehicle accessory and gets tossed immediately to Interior or Exterior folders, which rarely get read. Its hard enough finding the information online, so we come here to ask the questions and get pushed into a sub-category. I get the purpose of organizing posts, but the general area is where 90% of the members log in and discuss. If every time I ask "does anyone know where to get a black exhaust tip" and it gets pulled from the general forum Ill never receive feedback. My suggestion is to let it sit for a week at least in the General before moving it if you feel thats necessary. Or just dont move it at all and allow questions to be asked in the general and statements/pictures/exterior/interior updates to be posted in the subcategories. My .02
