Welp, found out where the metal in the rear was coming from. Just lost a tooth off a spider gear is what my ass is telling me. Limped it to my mechanic's shop to get fixed.

I brought my headlights and running lights back to life with some wet sanding, buffing, and clear coat. Running light in the pic is “before”. Not perfect, but keeps me from immediately wanting aftermarkets, I’m flirting with the idea of doing a retrofit. We’ll see

If those are Denali OEM lights there’s brackets available that allow you to just bolt on mini H1’s from the back without having to open up the headlights. It’s a super easy retrofit and if you use Acme projectors it’s relatively inexpensive.

Yesterday I received the new led door light assemblies I ordered off Amazon and installed them. I forget who found these but for $20 a pair they’re pretty nice. I never cared for the red reflector part of the stock ones.

Looks like the red lens snaps on over the new fixtures too, if someone wanted to maintain the original appearance...

Chinacardiags.com shipped my Vetronix Tech 2 clone really quick; and I received it in less than a week.

Having come all the way from Hong Kong, I am pleased with the condition that it arrived in via DHL. Carton was in near perfect condition!

I can't wait to begin saving all kinds of time and money!!!

I also ended up ordering the OBDII switched extender cable, so I can plug in the external DC power supply and avoid the Tech 2 rebooting when cranking or starting the engine.
That was on Ebay...

I don't see the purpose of the extender cable, all you need is a 12v dc power supply plugged in to a external source other than the car battery. the voltage drop is what makes it reboot, applying external power prevents that. the cable supplied with the tech2 will reach the length of the vehicle.

I don't think they were "left out" by the bean counters, but the people buying certain trim packages were charged extra.
I think it was part of a "convenience" package. My 04 Z71 has the door lights and the foot lights in the bottom of the outside mirrors.

This was back in the day, where manufacturers would show a super low base price; then, charge extra if you wanted a steering wheel.
Now days, they have since found out they can make more money by adding in things that used to be options and making them "standard equipment".
Part of the reason you can't hardly find a Kia for less than $25k! It is $10k car with $15k in mandatory options already included. There is nothing left on the list of possible options to even add-on, no matter how hard you try.

Solid info, I'll look those up. I'm going to end up opening them to black out some of the chrome and yellow on the inside, but I'm not going full rice with halos and such. I'd be happy with H1s, just wanting to modernize them a bit. Thanks!

Video I saw had the Tech 2 reboot after the starter cranked. Even with the 12vDC cord plugged in, the Tech 2 tries to draw power from from the OBDII port first. As long as there was power detected from the OBDII port, it would not kick over to the 12VDC feed from the other power supply. The switched extender cuts the power coming through the OBDII port, but the rest of the data does its thing. Since the power is cut off from the port, the Tech 2 will run off the 12VDC supply.

This may only be with the clones... Maybe it was only an issue with older clones, that has been since resolved? The video was from 2020. Maybe the problem has been fixed by Vetronix already?

The guy in the video found that his rebooted when initiating the engine cranked over. The switch seemed to solve that. For about $11, i figured it would be good to have if it kept the tTech 2 from rebooting during a diagnostic session that requires starting the engine.

I know that Subaru was still doing that a coup,e years ago at least. My daughter was looking at new cars and kinda wanted a Subaru but I told her to look at the Chevys because they come with everything standard. The Subaru she was looking at had a low end stereo and no other electronics. Those were all options. The interior looked stark. She bought a Cruze with every electronic option you can think of, all standard equipment and it was about the same price maybe even less that the basic Subaru. If they put everything in every vehicle it does raise the overall price but it also lowers the cost of options because it’s less expensive per car to just do it that way from the beginning.

Mine doesn’t do that if the external 12v power supply is plugged in. I haven’t heard of any that do. Mines about 3 years old.

FYI I’m pretty sure those are sealed with Permaseal. If they are, you might destroy them trying to open them. Google Permaseal and you can see how to tell and how hard it is to cut. It doesn’t melt in an oven like butyl.
