Wife and I got positive covid results. Our third day we seemed to be experiencing pretty mild symptoms, so we decided to make the best of our quarantine.

Yesterday I installed a second battery in the Tahoe. I'll edit the post with a picture of the setup. Cut a section out of the back of an old Federal Pacific breaker panel for the battery tray, ran a #2 cable from the 2nd battery to the first. No disconnect, nothing fancy. Just increased capacity for traveling, which leads us to....

We decided if we've got to quarantine we might as well have fun at it. We hit the road for the Rocky Mountains. We packed everything we need so we don't have to go in anywhere, only stops for fuel and otherwise staying in the vehicle, rest station bathrooms during the night with n95 as well as face shield. We left yesterday after I finished the battery install and made it as far as Mt Vernon, Illinois last night. We oughta hit Colorado in an hour or two and then head into the mountains tomorrow.

I'd really like to see pictures of your dual battery setup. I thought about putting on in my Yukon (I put a full setup in an '89 Jimmy I formerly owned) but just haven't felt like putting in all that effort. I never really considered just running a positive battery cable to basically double the capacity of the standard battery system and avoiding all the work with disconnects, isolator, etc.

( A little note... trying to be careful).......
My barber & his family got a positive "Covid " test... He had to be home for 10 days. I suggested him to see his doctor. His doctor told him he didn't have "C19".... He had the common cold.
The test used is originally for the common cold. But "they" don't differentiate the test result for current reasons.
Often, a "false positive for Coivid19" is actually finding it was just a cold instead. But "they" won't inform...

I've lived in the Appalachian mountains my whole life. Traveled a lot on the east coast, but this is my first time West. I've never seen anything like it.

I'd really like to see pictures of your dual battery setup. I thought about putting on in my Yukon (I put a full setup in an '89 Jimmy I formerly owned) but just haven't felt like putting in all that effort. I never really considered just running a positive battery cable to basically double the capacity of the standard battery system and avoiding all the work with disconnects, isolator, etc.

Here ya go! I do intend to improve it by also running a negative battery to battery, but for the time being this will work just fine. With this type of setup, having two of the exact same battery I believe becomes more important than in an isolated setup.

This is made easier by the terminal setup I use. I like to use the top post terminals with 3/8 lug on all my vehicles. Very robust setup and easy to add/remove/repair connections as needed.

There is not space to use the top posts on the second battery, unfortunately, but I also like batteries that are both top and side post. These Rural King batteries are a bargain at $50 or $60 each, manufactured by Exide. I run a RK battery with both top and side in either a 45 or 47 size in all my vehicles.

With this battery I did have to clearance the hood just a hair. 21 oz framing persuader made quick work of it and didn't effect the hood from the outside. I don't think this would've been necessary if it was just a side post battery, but I'm attached to this battery.

Heard that. Wife and I have known several people who've passed from C19. One of my customers is a pastor and lost 1/4 of his congregation due to it, unfortunately, so we're erring on the side of caution.



We made it into Denver late last night. Drove through in the dark and found a good spot to stop and camp around 7,700 feet. This was where we woke up.

I tell you what, this is an unbelievable sight. We've gone back down into Denver to get a few supplies (curbside), including tire chains. Don't expect to need them, but figure they don't hurt to have. I've wanted some for quite a while anyway.

Got down to about 35* last night. It was cool, but we were bundled pretty well and stayed comfortable. Having a great time. Leaving Denver towards Boulder now, and them into the Rocky Mountain National Park.

Had to cut the upper control arm out and buy new bolts, had to buy new sway bar bushings for 28 bucks to get 4 bolts that I couldn't find. I think these ones with bigger heads would have actually worked. Storm came through last night, I had to cut the carpet around my jack and roll it up, lol. I got the torsion bar knocked out on the driver's side, and hopefully I can have this thing back together in a couple more days, lol

Oh and I grabbed this today for 50 bucks, and the dude said he can program my milage for me after I get it installed.
