So what replacement alternator is everyone going with.Im noticing my lights flickering slightly and gauge fluctuating at idle and sometime dragging down idle when fluctuating.Leading me to think alternator is going out.Oe price was 393.00 delco 200 and car quest 177.Im leaning towards the ac delco reman.145 amp-alt on it now says delphi.Battery is 3 months old so im leaning towards alt even though it showing 13.5 volts when it drags down idle goes to 12.5-12.8 then back up.Grounds look good JUst called my local chevy dealer they said only reman ac delco and price is 575.00 f that.

So i remembered a place close by that has been in business for over 30 yrs-that used to do my alternators and starters. He said bring it by.He guted it replace every part inside and new bearings.Said a bearing was bad and took out the regulator hitting it.2 yr warranty 120 bucks and it was the original alternator. Also got to marker my fuse box think it looks good and engine cover also. Also ordered a new tensioner and idler for good measure.

What does he use to clean up the case? That looks great!

You lucked out. I havent seen a starter and alternator rebuild shop in decades. They were really common in 70's and 80's. It was a easy and very affordable deal to get one rebuilt back then. Most of the shops would have your unit back to you by the next morning at the latest! Those days are gone it seems. And they actually stocked parts then too!

That’s awesome you were able to get it repaired locally. Damn I’m jealous..! FYI, I went with Summit Racing for my replacement. It was around $400 shipped, p/n: 19244751, refurbished OEM unit.

As easy as alternator is to replace, the parts houses all have quality units in NEW and rebuilt flavors. Half that cost
