Recall Title:

Front Passenger Airbag Takata Inflator - Priority Group 9

Recall Description:

TK Holdings Inc. (“Takata”) has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in the passenger-side frontal airbag inflators installed as original equipment in certain 2007 to 2014 model year Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, and Escalade EXT vehicles; certain Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado 1500, Silverado 2500/3500, Suburban, and Tahoe vehicles; and certain GMC Sierra 1500, Sierra 2500/3500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles. The determination was made that the propellant in these inflators may degrade after long-term exposure to high humidity and temperature cycling, which could cause the inflator to rupture during a deployment.

Aaaand...pretty much all of the NNBS are cracked there and over at the driver side too. GM will sell you one for about $600 but they aren’t giving them away. There was even a class action lawsuit. It was dismissed. Good news is the new ones are reinforced in the problem areas. No telling if it helps.

Ya Carfax alerted me Monday on my '07 Burban LTZ that I already sold last year. But I have a 08 Silverado that has same recall also. Truck will be sold before local GM dealer gets any airbags to replace lol. I'm in Dallas there's like 1 million of these NNBS trucks all over this area going to be a LONGGGGGGGGGGGGG wait time to get replaced lol

I was notified a few days ago about a similar recall on my 2012. Status says parts not available

mine has the passenger recall, incomplete, no remedy yet. I know my dash will likely crack more if they even touch it this is going to be interesting

I just called my dealer service manager, pretty good guy he's been at the dealership for like 30+ years, he is not sure but he thinks they are only replacing a module on the airbag and not the entire airbag and it shouldn't be that intrusive, he doesn't think they will have to be puling the airbag and may be able to get it from underneath, but he is not 100% sure and most likely they will be suggesting that customers buy a new cap when they bring it in before they even touch it lol. oh well....

Yeah, and they’ll want dealer labor for installing it which I believe is around $400 plus the cost of the dash, so a cool grand should do it.

As I read the recall, it looks like this only applies to 2007 - 2014 models...correct? If so, should this be posted in that section as well?

It’s been discussed in multiple threads in that section. This has been ongoing for years actually. GM has been fighting it, they just recently were forced to do it. I’m not sure if there’s a dedicated thread though.
