Seriously considering the 2021 Tahoe. Found a comment about the transmission 1-2 shift by consumer reports.

Wondering how 2021 owners feel about the transmission shift feel. I own a Cadillac CT6 with 8L45 transmission with a clunky 1-2-1 shift behaviour and am concerned that Tahoe will be the same thing.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

It will occasionally do it. Typically when cold and rolling at slower speeds. My neighborhood has a 15 mph speed limit. While staying close to that speed and it shifts from 1st - 3rd and sometimes 1st - 2nd and there is a slight clunk. It does not do it when you're doing a more typical acceleration on the street.

My Ford F-150 with the 10 Speed does the same thing. I think they are the same exact transmissions. Joint design from GM & Ford.

I haven't noticed anything strange with the 1-2 shift, however i've had some odd acceleration in what seems like 2nd and 3rd. As the speed increases it seems like the rpms stay the same almost like the converter is slipping. This is only at part throttle at slower speeds. Almost feels like a CVT.

I experience strange shifts in that range as well. Already took it to dealer and they performed the following:

I haven't noticed any difference. It still can shift hard from 1 - 2 - 3 and sometime RPMs stay high. Its strange, definitely different from other vehicles I've owned (many). It is subtle, but there.

I have not noticed it yet, but I came from the 2016 with the 8 speed transmission. Some of you may recall how harsh that was and I had to have the old fluid flush twice. GM replaced that with the 9 speed I think in 2018.

The 8-speed transmission was notoriously "clunky" (among other things less nice). The 10-speed is quick, slick and smooth. Ford and GM sis a nice job with this one!

I really thought this issue would be gone by now with the 10 speed. I have the 8 speed in my 2016 Denali and 2017 ATS-V. There is a TSB for the 8 speed which I had applied to my V. It involved changing the transmission fluid to a different type. After the change, my issues went away 95%.

I definitely notice it.. drives me nuts. It's like to trips and falls from 1-2 but then figures out how to act after that. You almost have to accelerate more at the shift point to make it seem normal.

this is exactly how I would describe how my at4 shifts from 1-2

I've noticed it too. Usually only when I'm gently accelerating. It hasn't bothered me enough to post about it, but it is noticeable. If I'm driving more aggressively, it doesn't seem to happen.

Edit: I've only noticed it in my AT4. I haven't felt it at all in the Escalade.
