37* this morning and no oil issue again so I think Ill stick to 5w30 in the winter and the thick boy stuff during the summer. Also, hit 260k on my way to work, I keep forgetting to check the title and see how many miles it had when I bought it but I think it was low 230k.

I find it ironic that out of all the bulbs in the cluster its the voltage gauge that doesn't light up

You have me curious now. Gonna be in the low 30s this weekend. I'll start mine up just to see how it does. I'm running 11.67W-40 Rotella T6.

Actually, precise would be 11.66666666666667. I rounded.


Four quarts of 15W-40 and two of 5W-40 mixed together
Two weights: 15 and 5
Four parts of the 15W: 15x4= 60 parts
Two parts of the 5W: 5x2= 10 parts
Add the two amounts together to get the total parts of the mix: 60+10= 70
Divide the total parts of the mix into quarts: 70÷6 = 11.66666666666667
Rounded: 11.67W

It's what we used in the Jurassic Period for advanced math. I remember when the handheld (electronic) calculators came out. HP's were around $400 for something you'd pay $8 for today. Miniature tubes were expensive.

5W is too thin for my preference, 15W is a bit heavy. So, I bought a jug of each to mix and lighten 'em up a little. I'll mix 50/50 at the next change for a net 10W-40.

It's all probably unnecessary effort. But, we are obligated do that which gives us the psychological closure of sustaining the buoyancy of our metaphorical watercraft.

I haven't started it. I wanna test it after it has sat for a while (it's been about a week so far) and when the temp is as cold as it'll be for the foreseeable future. It's looking like Saturday morning will be perfect.

I haven't started it. I wanna test it after it has sat for a while (it's been about a week so far) and when the temp is as cold as it'll be for the foreseeable future. It's looking like Saturday morning will be perfect.

On another note a did another 20 gallon fill up today without having the handle stop on me once! It was glorious! I was able to check my oil, check the trailer straps and never had to go back to the handle till it was full. Also haven't had the "check gas cap" message and I'm still running the capless fill port.

If I can remember, I'll send off a sample for a baseline. I have a kit on my shelf. I expect there to be traces of all kinds of shit in the oil since the refresh. But, yeah, the oil viscosity itself would be cool to know.

I'll probably stand by the fender and remote start it and make a video.

Meh. The oils I'm mixing are the same, just different weights. If one floats on top of the other in the oil pan, they're completely mixed again within a few minutes.

Coldest it got was 33°, but I slept right through it and got up around 11 when it was already into the 40s.

I believe it's either a paint or powder coat, I'm very impressed going to try very hard not to let them get scratched during the install.
