From an earlier thread (IGNITION SYSTEM DESTROYED) many gave suggestions on theft deterrents. Happy to update that the ignition components in the steering column are now replaced and working like a top.

My next step is security. Firstly, a simple KILL SWITCH. I wanna install a toggle switch but not sure which is the best component to 'kill'. My first choice is the FUEL PUMP...the second choice is the STARTER.

I wanna keep the kill switch in the cab within the driver's reach and obviously hidden.

This needs to be as simple, clean and practical as possible.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I prefer the fuel pump kill but being unfamiliar with the wiring in yours, I'd go with whichever was easier to access for the switch. In another car, I had a toggle switch above the gas pedal with a vacuum line going to it. The premise was, I could activate the kill switch with my foot if being car jacked which was a popular profession for thieves in the early 1990s in South Florida.

The fuel pump relay is neatly placed in the fuse/relay box next to the brake fluid reservoir. I'd like to start from there but need to see if I can detach the box and look to see the fuel pump relay wires that are coming out from underneath. I know it's one of the two wires that show 12V when the key is set to start but show 0 voltage when off. I just want access to the wire connections.

Another idea is to maybe use the crank wire from the ignition switch (at the steering column).

The floor pedal idea is clever.

Whichever method you choose, make sure the switch you get can handle the amperage of the wires you are going to tap in to. Not every toggle switch is created equal.

I think I may wanna try using the wire responsible for cranking the starter. It’s in the ignition switch. But which color? I think it’s the yellow wire.

So on my 95 civic i had, i did a add a relay to starter wire connected it to the ac button, so in order to start it u have to turn the ignition on turn the fan on speed 2 and press the ac button then u can crank, if u press ac button only without fan on 2 it would not crank, basically added a relay to the kill switch just choose were u want ur ground coming from pin 86 from fan on depending the level itl throw ground whatever level u choose 1 2 or 3 when u put fan on that level u get ur ground goes to pin 86 and ur trigger pin 85 which is ac button when pressed it sends power that leaves the other 2 pins 87 n 30 should be starter wire in n out, so thats what i do when installing kill switches use to different buttons to engage the relay n Bingo no need no switch to hide, now on digital ones just use a parking light n defrost or any combination ud like with a relay only u would know the steps to start it . Hope it makes sense .... Also u can use pin 87A on relay to wire it to the horn so if tried to crank without the kill switch deactivated it would sound the horn put a loud horn on it

This is an excellent point.

I once moved the headlight dimmer switch to a toggle under the dash, so I could install a dead pedal on the floor.

It worked fine, until it didn't.

Out in the middle of nowhere, during the wee hours, the switch overheated [basically melted] and I lost my lights.

A 24 volt toggle from an aircraft fixed me up.

This is best done by switching the relay trigger, not the load circuit.

I have an alarm and kill switch. I'd post details, but then vehicle may get stolen.
