Console Sub?

I have a 03 LT Hoe. Really thinking of putting a sub in, nothing fancy. Just something for a little extra bass and punch. I already have the speakers replaced all the way around and a amp installed. From what I understand is there a sub in the center console? Is that worth replacing? I would love to keep the sub hidden or discrete as possible. Was thinking either using the center console or making the LR hidden sub an option.

I contacted Crutchfield about this yesterday. We have 2 options... One we can put under the middle console (if you have the one that attaches up to the dash) or one that goes under the second row of seats. The console option is over $600 and requires an amp. The under-seat one was more like $300 and also requires an amp.

I've seen a few people come up with installing a subwoofer in the molding on the left side cargo area. Those look clean but I don't know how well they work or if there is lots of vibration. That seems to be the cheaper route anyway if the price matters to you. Good luck! Let us know what you decided to do.

It's crazy that the center console option is a JL Box with a 10W3v3-2 and that sub alone is $300. The box it comes in is valued at $369 for a total of $669. Pre-fabbed solutions are a costly solution.

Do you have bench seats or captain's chairs in the second row seating in your truck? If you have captain's chairs, you could mount a sub box between the captain's chairs as another potential option.

I thought about that, but I want to be as stealthy and visually out of sight. I have a bose system so my sources tell me I should have a sub in my console. Just don’t feel like taking it apart to figure out mounting and fitment.

I installed a factory 00-02 sub box in my 2006 rear quarter panel. It has a Rockford sub and amp. I had to line everything with sound deadner due to pinging in the sheet metal.

I then wired the factory console sub the the Rockford amp. The factory console sub came to life after being wired to the aftermarket amp!

I also found that MB Quart makes a sub that fits the factory sub box really well. I’ve installed a few of these with good results.

Yep, junk yard is the best option. Get the little clips from the donor truck for the box! Otherwise you will have to fab something to secure it. I have the quart sub-it’s ok for what it is

I do have the long body OEM box, but no mounting clips.

IIRC, I might have a short body OEM sub box as well in my shed with some other misc. parts, but would have to check if you were interested. Or they are in the junkyard, just grab those 2 mounting tabs.

In my 03 tahoe (with bose) I gutted the center console amp and sub, and then made a custom fit box with an 8" kicker. It is just enough bass and it is right up front where you can feel it.
I used to have two 10" infinity subs a long time ago, but that took up space in the rear. This is much much better, and depending on how you make it, there's a nice opportunity for small hidden storage underneath your cup holders where no one would think to look.

Thanks. Yup just took one for ya. The gap is between the back of the sub box and the front of the console compartment. It is deep and several inches wide, and I have some extra speaker cloth in there for a nice comfy storage spot, positioned just right to quickly reach in there.
I had to build a mock-up box with cardboard to get the sub box dimensions just right. It took me two days of building and I almost gave up, I am very happy I didn't.

That's awesome. I added the Bose console to my 03, which originally had the jump seat. I took the amp out snd wired the factory Bose sub to my non Bose setup. I like yours much better!

Thanks. I used to have a pioneer head unit connected to the stock bose system, bypassed the bose amp, and had an infinity amp just to the 2 infinity subs. When I had an issue where my headunit would not turn itself off, I thought it would be a good idea to go back in and really refresh the whole system.
I put a new pioneer head unit in, alpine amp under one of my rear captains seats, rewired all new door speakers, tweeters, and larger d-pillar speakers. The bose amp space under the console is just empty space now, I wanted my amp to be easily accessible and stay cool. My cuts on the center console aren't the cleanest but it is structurally sound and hidden anyways.
The sound is amazing and I love everything about it. Also having android auto is the greatest.

Nice work. That’s similar to the one I bought for my center console in my 08 Silverado but it takes a 10”. I’m running a JL and it hits pretty hard. You could sell those on eBay.
