Did your engine temp light come on?

Did your oil pressure drop and give you a warning on your dash?

If not, I agree with Mark in that I don’t think you burned your oil.

How much oil came out when you drained it?

What kind of oil did you have Pep Boys put in? I remember you said you bought out all the Mobile 1 that O’Riellys had a while back. Is that what you had put in?
the oil was smoking when i was at the gas station

visible smoke came out of the oil filler after i found the oil pan was dry Zero on the dip stick...
when i stopped by at the gas station

I knew there was a issue as i can smell the burning oil smell too late by then .

mobil1 EP 5w30 is what i bought

the oil is physically burned (it's black) with only 2k miles on it that means the oil ran very low and cooked it self... aka overheated motor oil cooks at 400-500F

i had 4k miles on my last oil change and there was only a few specks of carbon in it and was light Amber..

Sorry to learn of this Brent. Have you tried running some clean oil through system with a new filter (making sure they didn't leave o-ring behind)? That might get the VVT to behave again. Might have to do a couple drain and fills.
it's all ready throwing cel codes something got damaged.. the VVT system is the "emissions control system" that is how they are able to delete the EGR system via VVT LIVC

that is why i'm getting emissions codes..

this was 160 miles trip so all the oil must have poured out at 50-60PSI it did not take long the use up the 6qt of oil according to the photo it must have sprayed out at times..

I know from reading the shop manual that low oil can set off VVT codes, same with low oil pressure and the wrong viscosity and dirty oil.

I sold my old cats to the local scrap yard for some $$$ too.

What are stock cats worth? I know they're worth more than aftermarket ones. I have a set of Magnaflow cats kickin around somewhere that I may scrap along with some stock ones.

One of the reasons for the 4k OCI squeaky clean oil :| ..

the low oil light never came on :(
but the oil was lower in the 40 PSI range (according to the manual it was with in spec so i did not think much of it ) normally it's about 45-50PSI idle with 6qt

i going to call them up and have them pay for the oil change (no cheap garbage maybe even flush the system as well)and oil analysis if there is a high levels of metals in the oil(more then normal) they are going to have to pay a surgeon to repair my unicorn;s VVT camshaft...

at the dealer none of this "low cut rate random i know a friend shop around town type of shop"

i'm really sad this would have never happened if my regular mechanic did not pass away

even the local GM dealers refuse to work on the hybrids scared of :shocked:300 volts..... lol
all you have to do is pull the service plug and put the service lock out, lock or keep the breaker plug with you
Just like electricians do

I suspect the prices fluctuate as they contain precious metals. In February of 2018 they paid me... I think it was $60 for all three. Ten dollars for the Chicom cat and $25 for the other two. Afterwards, I read that the scrap price was $78 for GM cats!

You know you're getting old Brent when most of your friends are over in the cemetery!

A fireman near me owns one and has seen to it that all the FDs and PDs have the training to disconnect power for all of SE Florida.

Ugh. I'll see if I can find a current price list. $78 each is more like what I thought they were worth.

getting the rear brakes repaired... don't want to keep risking it
and a new 12volt battery

also going to get a oil analysis as well to see on the VVT cam got damaged(hydraulic cam phaser) :(

you can really hear it at start up across the court yard from bank1 (AFM side it was mostly AFM mode the whole drive 90% of the 164 miles... that is the same side that got the emissions code gotta burn that oil vapor )

oil analysis will show the truth of the amount of damage

the CEL is off and passed the dirty diesel test happen to be behind a old diesel pickup no p0420 from that (normal would trigger on the spot if there was a issue with it)

there is a code for the roll over sensor though

no clacking in the last few day of cold starts but at this point only a oil analysis will tell me for sure
