Tip sticking out too far? Wow i did not expect it to smell so strongly but apparently that is normal for new exhaust parts while all the oils and such burn off. Smells loke burning plastic

It’s normal, smell will be gone in a couple days.

The engineered formula for finding the optimal protrusion of the exhaust exit is as follows:

Stand at the right rear corner of the vehicle, perpendicular to and on the same axis as the panel from where the exhaust exits. Put your head down so you chin touches your chest. Walk forward until the crown of your head contacts the vehicle. You should be able to see approximately 25mm of the tip protruding from the horizon of the side panel. A tolerance of +/- 13mm is acceptable.

Be sure you have an audience when you perform these calculated measures.

Yeah im also surprised. The only rust is surface rust on the frame that you could get off with a wire brush it u wanted. I have grand visions of coating the whole thing in por15 but the prep work scares me off. Its been in washington state and canada it whole life

Update the front end of the muffler contacts the frame makes a real nice rattling sound upon start up, you can actually feel throughout the truck. Gotta go under and dick around until i get some clearance somehow

Loosen that connection and a few up and downstream of it and see if it can be relaxed or pulled enough to clear? Or just bend a hanger rod(s) some.

That’s what I did when mine was doing that after I installed the headers, but I also stuck a prybar between the pipe and the crossmember it was vibrating on, then tightened everything back up before pulling the prybar out. It stayed in that position, maintaining the clearance.

Any chance your motor mounts are old and sagging and new ones would get it off the cross member?
