Have any of you had issues with coil whine in your NNBS? After 30/40 min of the vehicle being on, it sounds like I've got coil whine coming thru my speakers or coming out of the head unit itself- I can't tell which. its a pain because the radio is always turned on- even when you turn it off- because the alert chimes and turn signal sounds- etc all play thru the radio. It's almost headache inducing and I can't tell what it is- the head unit or the factory amp leaking the sound thru the tweeters.

Based on my experience with computers, and coil whine that I've heard come from graphics cards and/or standard ATX power supplies, I want to say its the factory amp causing my issue, but I don't have anything else to base that on.
maybe check your grounds

I mean under the hood in general, usually the source of interference would be the alternator, does it make the noise if the key is on without the engine running?
I think so? I will have to double check tomorrow. It doesn't vary with rpm. Its kind of a tcktcktck tick-tick tick-tick tcktcktcktck

you could try pulling the radio out and pull the harness off and blow everything out with compressed air, doing that might (maybe) make you have to enter the security code though which only the dealer can do, you could also check the harness on the amp.

Is the security code not the last four of the vin?

I honestly have no idea, I pulled mine out and put a aftermarket one in, I have never tried to plug it back in to see. maybe it's time to upgrade? wireless android auto is pretty convenient, waze starts up automatically as soon as I turn the key on, actually Waze and Sirius, I have the Sirius app on my phone so I can skip songs which is pretty cool compared to a plain Sirius receiver, Since they did the update a few weeks ago it makes it even better now, then yesterday I was reading that wireless android auto works with samsung phones now, it was just the google phones only

Went to check the catch can tonight. Been on a week or two?

Nothing in it except a few drops of oil vapors that smell like gas. That said the two pieces that act as baffles unscrewed themselves and fell in the can. One screws into the other. I screwed everything back together.

I have a feeling that the two pieces are actually supposed to hold a filter of some sort, but it doesnt come with one. I will have to come up with something to put in there, which will help the vapors condence easier, making the can more effective.

Use some of that metal/steel scrubber stuff. I forget the name. It helps capture those oil vapors even more.
So I ended up ordering the clears. I’m sure they won’t be here by this weekend so I’m aiming to install them the next weekend which is ok cuz I need to finish up some things on the dually this weekend anyway :)
I always run a small bead of silicone behind the lenses, and some dialectic grease on the bulb gasket--part of the harness that plugs into the lens itself. Also I'd swap out the cheap hardware behind the lens with the oem stuff.

I need to go to the parts yard and look for some stuff. Black inserts, hopefully find some weathertec floor mats, maybe different dash/door card trim, non chrome door handles would be nice too. Would also like to find black A piller trim.

Black A-pillar trim? AFAIK, all pillar trim pieces and headliners are the same grayish/tannish color across all models and color combos. I stumbled across my color-matched door handles on eBay when looking for aerosol touch-up paint in my color. Got the whole, like-new OEM set for $50. Sometimes you find what you want when you stop looking for it.

Why do you think this is? I can't stand it I wish it matched the rest of the interior. Safety thing for rescuers? Visibility thing for law enforcement?

I think it's simply a penny-pinching maneuver. Go with one color material that's neutral and fits (subjective) with all other interior color options and you cut costs.

I wouldn't want it to be a dark color, at least not ebony like the rest of my interior is. This would make the interior feel much smaller and cramped. The lighter color "opens it up". I replaced the light gray headliner in my XJ with charcoal gray material and it made the already small cabin feel even smaller.

What I'd like to do is dye it all a grey color, something like the non-metallic version of the body color would work.

Didn't think of it that way, makes sense for cost cutting. Still can't stand it though lol. Especially where the pillars meet the dash, such a clash of color. Drives me nuts.

Added one door to the storage area, but I may make it a pull out drawer instead. Covered both the door and bottom trim with contact paper.

I may try to find an android based head unit I like. Most of the double dins I’ve used weren’t very impressive- and an android tablet in the dash would be neat. Running spotify nativly on it would be perfect

I am running the Range Technology disabler device.
Do you have the updated valve cover? maybe test blowby on a cold start bg flipping oil cap upside down and see how quickly its pushed back up?

@Doubeleive these are the two radios I’ve been looking at. The android would be cool because its essentially a tablet with a bunch of extra equipment. The Sony would be cool because its gonna be way easier to set up.

I highly suggest one of the newer ones capable of wireless Android Auto, wireless Car Play and wireless Miracast. I had a Sony back awhile ago and wasn't impressed, Pioneer makes way better products IMO. The wireless options are only found in a few European cars and aftermarket units. They use Wi-Fi instead of Bluetooth for higher bandwidth thus enabling all functions to be wireless instead of just music.https://www.amazon.com/AVH-W4400NEX...L4/?tag=bingshoppinga-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid={creative}&hvpos={adposition}&hvnetw=o&hvrand={random}&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=e&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl={devicemodel}&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4583932700493562&psc=1

I have the pioneer w8400nex https://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/NEX/AVIC-W8400NEX
only pioneer and kenwood have had wireless but jvc just came on board
I also use the maestro rr which interfaces with the obd port and gives me full operation of the bose y92
beats the heck out of a stock unit
the jvc or kenwood units are down to $499 now
