UPDATE!!!

Bought a 1998 Fleetwood Flair with a Vortec 454 and 4L80e HD trans. Only has 30K miles! I’m swapping this into the Hoe, then doing an 0411 PCM swap that will then get dyno tuned. The tear down starts next weekend, and should be completed within a couple of weeks!

Best part? Bought it for $250!

i used to work on motorhomes and i suggest being ocd when your checking the engine and such out before install. alot of people dont maintain those anywhere near where they should. ive also taken a few rides with customers for that noise that you cant replicate but they still want it fixed. seen my life flash before my eyes quite a few times as people attempt to drive them like its a small car.

when your riding with someone whos driving a 40ft vehicle trying to merge on the highway like its a mustang..... come around that last on ramp turn like nascar and have that baby floored until it hits 80 mph. i still swear that one guy had us on 2 wheels but i cant argue with him the 454 sounds nasty AF with the banks master kit. ram air intake tube with a new intake cleaner full long tube headers and exhaust all the way back.

I appreciate that, and definitely will. I looked through it pretty well before I pulled the trigger. Motor spins, turns over, no knocking, oil looks super clean, transmission oil looks and smells great, so I’m hoping for the best!

So how big of a cam are you going with?
And I wouldn't do stock injection. Grab an aftermarket super victor efi manifold or something

It’s staying stock internals for right now until money allows more. It will be the stock RV cam, so more low end torque, and slightly better MPG (not that it matters haha). Hopefully in the next year I can stroke it to a 496. Good idea on the efi manifold! I know you can upgrade the injectors using mustang 5.0 injectors, but I’ll look into that super victor too

Def don't want that hoist to tip! Almost happened to me once.

That would be disastrous lol. I bet your heart skipped a beat on that one. Gonna be heavy that’s for sure! Probably going to leave it 2WD for now, then convert it back to 4WD in a few months. Should be ready to run by next weekend!

I wonder if you can punch it out and use the GM 8.1/496 rotating assembly in that block otherwise I prob wouldnt bother spending big money on stroker kit.
Just reuse the crank and rods...grab a nice set of higher compression pistons. Put some good springs on the heads and nice specd cam.

My fbody/ls friends have a guy that builds most of their engines but he loves big blocks might have some good info when you're ready

That would be awesome! I'm sure there's alot of us on here who are excited for you. I can't wait to see it done and running.
