Ok boys, need your help/input on my catastophe. So, I'm pulling out of my shop today and CLUNK, no gear while in drive feels like it's in neutral. So, I put it in first and she goes but the traction control light is on. I can manually shift through 1-3 and R and even get it to go into 4th by putting it in D while on the freeway but only after I'm in 3rd(it won't go from 2nd to D, it goes out of gear). Now, it will shift up and down while on the freeway but when I try and go from a dead stop in D CLUNK, no gear, and traction control light and back to manual shifting. The TC light always comes on in 1st but goes off once I shift to 2nd and there is a slight whining noise on the low end of 2nd.

So, what's the consensus? I know the tranny is f'ed but I'd like some feedback as to what y'all think happened so I can have some info when I take it in and maybe it just needs a rebuild and not a whole new tranny.... and what's up with the TC light? Could it be the rear end?

HELP!!!!

Yeah, I was wrong ... That's just for the tranny they want $895 installed. I have talked to them a few times before and he seems real knowledgeable but I don't know anyone that has used them. Since I have to get a new tranny would it be worth getting the 4l80? What's the difference?

are u 2wd or 4wd? you will need a new flywheel, change the wiring around for the trans, new crossmember, new rear dirveshaft etc..its quite a bit of work especially if your not pushin big power

2WD, damn....... thought it was a direct swap-ish deal...nevermind. I will eventually be running an SC and LT headers but I just can't afford to be f'ing around with all that jazz right now. The trannys are the same price more or less so I thought if it was easy why the hell not.....but screw it.

AAAAAHHHHH this sucks arse......last thing I needed to happen this week.

Word up, thnx guys. I'll look into 65e upgrade. After calling like 20 guys I went with this cat I found on CL. For $900(only $650 for the upgraded rebuild:reg $550) wish I could pull it and reinstall it myself but that ain't gonna happen, they will pull rebuild and reinstall with an aftermarket "beast" sun shell, upgraded sprag, and another little upgrade I forgot. He seemed to know the most about these transmissions. I talked to a few places that were giving me a hard time about swapping out my vette servo, it is a standard rebuild upgrade with this guy....what really sucks is I recently switched over to RP and will have to go with Dextron until I have another 2 bills to go back to RP.......sucks arse.

What is the difference in the 65e?

The guys CL posting, he works out of a legit shop too which is a plus.

Get a stall for a trailblazer and you'll see a decent performance increase. You'll need a retune after the trans to take full advantage of the new found power.

Hmmmm, should it cost much more for the stall?(which is what?) Retune....man, a guy can't catch a break. Maybe I will shoot over to Temecula if that SoCal tune happens.....

Since the ad listed converter as inclusive I'd see it a good time to scoop a tb converter since they stall a bit higher than your stocker. You won't notice a huge difference but it may hit the rev limiter under WOT until you have a retune. I see it as a good opportunity for an upgrade given your current situation.

Ok, so I should ask for a TB Torque Converter? Thnx for the info Max, I have learned a lot since I bought my truck but Tranny rebuild is a whole new world...... installing the Vette Servo and dropping the pan to change the filter is the extent of my tranny experience.....

Oh yeah..... throwing a z-pack in there....that was the other small upgrade

the TB converter would be nice..you can also check out Yank..they have a trucker converter that is a 2600 rpm stall for around $350..its more then stock and the TB converter, but its not so much that its going to kill your mpg...they say it knocks .4 seconds off your 0-60 time on the website

for a stock application, I agree with Max ( no offense Nick) but the Trailblazer converter can be had for about $150, and give you much smoother stall speed for a daily. Ask tranny guy to take off the cost of his converter, and install you a huge tranny cooler for the price he has notated. Cool tranny fluid, no matter what you do, is a lifesaver.

Right on, thank you. It's working out well, spending a bit more than I intended but what the hell, might as well get some things done while he is on there. Basically it's a 4l65e build w/o the 5 gear planetary but with a TB TC. The 5 gear would have been nice but I spent the $$ elsewhere so with the rebuilt kit I am also having him put in:

Trail Blazer Torque Converter($50-said it was extra since it wasn't a straight swap, kind of think it's BS but I don't know enough to argue)
Beast Sun shell($50)
Steel Sleeve thing that reinforces the aluminum shaft(can't remember where though, it was 6am-at the sun shell maybe)($50)
Z-Pack($55)
upgraded sprag(standard on his rebuild)
an extra $130 for RP......*******
and I have my vette servo in there already.

The total out the door is $1200 for pull, rebuild, reinstall, and a whole system flush w/coolant. Figured if I was gonna do $900 for just a straight up rebuild then might as well go the extra mile and get some upgrades for a few hundo'......

$50 is worth it, kinda think it should be free since a trailblazer is the same damn trans just a different converter. Should run good once it's rebuilt
