Lifter failure.......opinions on L83 or L94 swap

My 07 Burb LTZ has finally called it. its definatly pulled its weight racking in 400k+ so i cant complain much but now im looking to do a quick simple swap just for reliablity. I plan on doing a blown l86 but for now the truck just sits as i travel for work and will be sitting for the most part for a while. dont plan on replacing rear end and tranny until i do the l86 so what do you guys think?

First, remove the engine, Steam clean it and buy a cheap harbor freight engine stand to mount it with a placard stating 400K+ and put it in the garage with a nice comfortable chair in front of it. Whenever life get's tough go to the chair with a cold one and consider it as an "Oracle". LOL! That is an amazing engine! As far as your blown L86,The dollars are about to flow at a quantitative rate.

Lol. It has surely been good to me. Racked up a lot of highway miles going between VA and FL. Had more problems with tires than anything. Im def anticipating the cost of the 86 build and that's why theres No need to drop that load and let it sit. I plan on buying piece by piece and then do a full assembly when I'm going to be home for a while. For now I think I'm leaning more towards the 83 as I can get them seemingly for a lot cheaper and with less milage. Only makes sense. My question now is will this be a drop in swap (minus wiring) or will I need make mods (mounts, bell housings, complete trans.....etc) I do my own work but I work on a lot of imports. The truck will still be used to pull one or two of them around.

If it's just a failed lifter why not repair it and rock while you build your blown motor?

Mainly because I leave my vehicles with my parents as I'm away for months at a time and I my newborn. While They only drive them occasionally Im looking at the reliability aspect. The block is high mileage burns a fair amount of oil and now needs some internal tweaking. Easier to just pull it and not worry about it. The 86 project probably won't come together for the next 2 or three years when I'm able to be home on a regular basis.

You'll have to see if the BCM will talk to the TCM and ECM of the Gen V engines. I would imagine that changing generations would be more hassle than the gains made. A Gen IV L9H with a camshaft will make just as much power but not be as economical on the highway and cost a whole lot less to introduce. The difference in money saved may pay for that extra fuel.

The only reason I mentioned it because I had a lifter fail on mine at 135k. I had the lifters replaced and now about to hit 205k with no issues whatsoever and it's been 100% reliable in that span. Obviously, that may be a world different compared to 400k but felt like it needed mentioning :shrug: In the big scheme of things a failed lifter is not the end of the world.
