glad everyone is OK, I didn't see anyone mention also any type of major work you have had performed on the truck and possibly any Upgrades with receipts within the last year should also be applicable to the value, for instance I have a new engine and front and rear diffs rebuilt in the last year for a total of almost $14k (even though it was paid by insurance) it would up the value that much more. I would just dig up any receipts and tally it all up and say "hey" what about all this? some stuff is legally added other stuff is negotiable. and as mentioned above don't sign anything until your satisfied.
I just bought it March 14th, and I've only done Husky floor liners, Diablo I3 tuner, AirRaid intake tube and AEM filter, and front windows tinted. Everything but the tint I was able to swap out back to stock/factory.

Figured it all fits '07-14, so if I get another I can reuse them. If not, sell them in the classifieds or something.

As some of you may already know from the "What have you done with your NNBS today" thread, I was in a pretty serious accident Sunday evening with my Yukon Denali.

Me and my two kids were stopped at a red light less than a mile from home. After the light turned green and I got about halfway through the intersection, another vehicle traveling from right to left ran the red light and basically T-***** me, causing me to spin clockwise diagonally through the intersection and coming to a stop after hitting a telephone pole/guy wire on the other side/corner of the intersection.

The vehicle that hit us was probably a 2000-2005 Yukon or Esky, the front end was smashed in almost to the windshield. I wasn't paying too much attention to that other vehicle or driver, I was more concerned about my kids. All the side airbags and side curtain ones that drop from the headliner covering the windows deployed.

I don't remember if we actually hit the pole or just the guy wire cable that was about 10 feet past the pole and angled from the ground up to the pole. The cable was cut into the front about 2 feet and you can see where the hood buckled around it.

Here are a few pics I took the next day from the tow yard when I was there getting belongings out of the vehicle

My insurance estimated a cost of $21,676 for repair and has deemed it totaled and offered $23,000 to me. I just purchased this in early March with 110k miles on it and it currently just hit 115k. It is (was) in immaculate condition, both inside and out, and had every bell and whistle option and everything worked.
I paid $21,500 but also got the 3yr/36k mile extended powertrain warranty that brought the total to $23k

Here are some pics I took about a week ago

Definitely get a lawyer.

He is probably like 40 percent of Americans who cannot cover $400 expense in an emergency. You cannot squeeze blood out of a turnip, so the saying goes.

I was rear ended while stopped all alone at a traffic light in the middle lane in my immaculate 1985 El Camino Choo Choo SS by a woman driving a Ford Explorer. Turned out, she had a suspended DL, no insurance, and admitted to the cop that she was taking opiates. While being loaded onto theambulance, a guy said she was in the outer lane, then right befire plowing into me, she moved into my lane and hit me going 40mph. At the ER, the cop came by later to check on me, and said she just got a ticket!! Said she didn't see my white EC with LED taillights nor the light on a sunny morning. Go figure....

My comp and collision covered me, but my medical expense had a deductible which I wound up paying 3 years later.

I never heard anything about court, but researched and found that she pled guilty to having defective brakes.

People like the woman who hit me are the ones who do the car title loans and payday loans, are broke, but loaded up with tats, are close to, or are bankrupt, living a pretty sad existence, much different than those of us who can afford a nice car.

My suggestion is to get their address, see if they own the house. If not or an apartment dweller, they probably have a negative net worth, and would be a waste of time.

Pretty much what that lawyer told me. The guy that pulled in front of me only got a ticket for suspended license and no insurance. I got ahold of the police report and found out he was a 22 year old broke-ass kid who lived in an apartment and was driving his dad's old Volvo that he was given. He pulled out of a Crunch Fitness in the middle of the day so he probably didn't have a job. I drove by his address and it was in ghetto land, slum apartment. I found that out before contacting the lawyer who said he'd be glad to take my money to go after the kid. I'm sure there are plenty of lawyers who wouldn't be so honest and might get a person's hopes up. You know, most lawyers are right up there with all the rest of the scumbags, ready to take advantage.

The truck did her job, sacrificed itself to protect y'all. A camry or impala would not have fared so well. Go get another one, an XL next time! We'll keep your family in our prayers to the Lord.

OP- so glad that there is/will be a happy ending. Like you said, it could have been much worse if you were in a sedan.

Swathdiver- curious why you’re recommending an XL? Do you think it’s safer for people sitting in the 3rd row even if the impact is from the side?

That's my thinking, and it's heavier, more heft and less likely to be tossed around. Tom was hit though by basically the same thing he was driving.

I've been in accidents in cars and jeeps that nearly killed me and delivered life long injuries. I was rear ended in my F-450 SuperDuty once and barely noticed.

Sad. Glad to hear your family is ok. I am always amazed that the worst accidents are always within a mile of where we live. Never understand that fact!!!

Damn. Glad to hear everyone is ok (for the most part). It could have been so much worse, best of luck in recouping what's been lost.

Physics wins every time. More mass equals less impulse delivered to the occupants. My 2500 Suburban weighs 6500 lbs empty. Woe be upon the poor SOB that hits it.

Additionally, the rear cargo area of the XL/Suburban offers more protection on a rear impact - a bigger buffer/crumple zone between the bumper and the humans.

And people who remove the rear bumper and replace it with a roll pan need to be aware that there's even less protection for rear occupants in a rear end collision. I wouldn't even put anybody in the third row seats if that's the case. With a pickup you still have the bed to protect you but not on an SUV.

Well guys, the kids are doing much better. My daughter's been walking without the walker all week and her xrays for the fractured upper rib looked good and they removed the neck brace. The tissue/muscle on her neck and shoulder is still a bit sore and limits her from turning her head as much, and she has some physical therapy scheduled for it.

We received a copy of the police report from our lawyer. The other driver stated his brakes didn't work, but also was unsure what lane he was in or what color the light was. Report shows that he was under the influence of drugs/alcohol. There was a witness statement from the person in the vehicle behind me, basically saying it happened the way I described above (we got the green light, proceeded through, other driver ran light at speed and hit us from the right).

Insurance payed off the car, now just need to keep an eye out for a replacement that I like. I've found a 2012 Tahoe LTZ that has less miles and has all the options the Denali had, except for the 6.2l. It does have the heavy cooling and tow package along with built in brake controller. Will I regret the 5.3 over the 6.2? I know with it having selectable 2w/4w it will get better daily gas mileage than the AWD 6.2.

Also found a 2012 Suburban LTZ with a bit more mileage than the Denali, with all the same options. Not sure of engine size, but guessing 5.3.

Can you live without the 83 extra horsepower? Is getting 15 mpg around town over 12 mpg that important? Do you park them in the garage? Will the Suburban fit in your garage?

I wanted a 4x4 and not AWD and so had to accept the smaller engine. No regrets.

From those choices, I would get the LWB (Suburban). It’s more useful for families IMO. And as previously mentioned, it’s bigger and heavier so slightly safer. As long as it “fits” your lifestyle.

I still own my Blackbear tuned 05 5.3 Tahoe (want to sell), but my daily driver is my 09 6.2 Tahoe, also tuned by blackbear. The difference in power is un-mistakable and I almost never drive the 05 because of it.
Out of curiosity, or maybe I didn't read it, but what about the 2011-14 Yukon Denali XL? It would have a 6.2.

P.S., there was a comment about city mpg... My 6.2 (3:42 rear end) gets better city mileage by 1mpg than my 5.3 (4:10 rear end), just gotta press light on the pedal.

Glad everyone is steadily recovering.

As for the 5.3 vs. 6.2, you're gonna have to give it a thorough test drive and decide for yourself. Of course, you'll feel the difference in power. But you'll have to get some good seat time to determine if you can live with it. A good tune and light foot on the 6.2 can even up the MPGs between the two, but it'd take more than a good tune and bolt-ons to match the 6.2 power with the 5.3. Long tubes, free-flow exhaust and a good tune are the best bolt-ons for the 5.3 to help narrow that power difference gap.
