So I have an IO5 radio, not ready to upgrade to I06. I use waze and google maps with pros and cons.

I would "like" to have a permanent GPS and of course I have old phones that can work with those two apps in projection mode etc etc.....

My question is, by using an "old" phone to act as dedicated GPS navigation, the old phone has NO cellular or data access (minus wifi if turned on) so real time data is lost if I do it with an old phone vs one that has my active phone number and cell data service.

The other downside and major pitfall is the car can only connect to one phone at a time so I would lose the bluetooth/data connection for phone hands free to take calls etc.

So the twist is, does anyone have thoughts of how I could clone/mirror/link/whatever the old phone to my active phone on my hip to deal with hands free calling and real time data link so it can navigate as well as pull from my active phone for a network connection?

I don't see much of topic on Google about it, just not ready to swing 750 for hardware at this time.

Thanks,
Chris

Use your active phone as a personal hotspot for your GPS older device. You can still be connected to your ride via bluetooth or cable if you wish with your active device.

Well the older phone will be connected via the usb cable, so doesn't that disconnect the active phone from the car?? Or can the USB work to the screen and the bluetooth from active work as a connected device......hmm.....I think I know where your going, I'll give it a try.

Do you have an aux port? If so, purchase a bluetooth receiver and you can pair two or more devices, depending on the receiver, and transmit into the aux port.

I plugged in my old phone via usb, enabled Bluetooth tethering on my active phone, and everything works great......minus being able to have incoming phone calls be handled by the truck.

If I bought something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/HomeSpot-Wireless-Bluetooth-Streaming-Simultaneously/dp/B019II1JMW

I can see what you mean, but then plugging in the old phone via usb disconnects the active bluetooth connection and puts me back to the beginning.

The tethering works great if I could just figure out how to have the old phone link to the active phone via bluetooth while it is plugged into the truck to answer calls.

Figures, get most of it going and the most critical part is the problem...... LOL.

:)

GM really need to update the software to allow for a minimum of two bluetooth items to be connected at the same time.

I would just like to be able to connect my personal phone and work phone to the truck and answer either phone if they ring using the trucks bluetooth.

Have you tried using the old phone via BT and the new via USB (which will override the BT for calls)? And tether the old to the new via wifi (for data).

I just tossed T-Mobile hotspot in the center console, i figure it would be useful for things such as this or for the kids to use there tablets on road trips, now they just need to come out with a dvd deck that has wifi built in or even cellular capable. in the meantime I can just run a android tv off the hotspot to my deck

Well the old is needed for the mapping and android auto, the maps are to be handled by the old phone so I don't have to take the new phone off the hip and in and out of the car. So in that config, it would all work, minus projection mapping of Waze/Google Maps.

Last time I verified, mapping/projection can't be done via BT only via USB, and that puts me where I am now, taking the new phone off the hips to do the nav and all the rest.

Unless I am misunderstanding?

Only way we know how to do this is with a mirroring input module like this one: https://www.adcmobile.com/product/multi-camera-interface-for-chevrolet-vehicles/

This gives you an HDMI input to mirror the phone, and the audio can run via Bluetooth. It will also allow you to add up to four additional cameras.

When you hook up the phone, you could have it run any app to use as navi, all while listening to just about any source (radio, disc, etc.) because the video switching is done separately form the audio switching. To get audio from the app, you would listen to Bluetooth.

Watch the demo (Waze app at 13:30):

I saw your product and I agree it does almost everything, but losing the touch screen for nav when it's mirroring Waze is kind of a deal breaker.

I wish there was some way to let the old phone mirror the active one, but by all accounts it's illegal and falls under phone tapping...... LOL.

Thanks to all for the input.

You don't get factory touchscreen control of the phone if that's what you mean, but if you wanted to display apps that Apple Car Play won't allow, then this is the only way to do it as far as I am aware....
