The % off is just easy for everyone to calculate across the board. Msrp and percentage off equals a good deal or bad...., but that depends on the time of year, inventory and ....gas prices :)

Have you looked at pricing from Laura GMC? lots of guys use that as a card in their hand.

I've never understood this or why it mattered.

Because its the only apples to apples measurement you have when comparison shopping.

Saying "I saw tahoes for $10K off at dealer X!!" is meaningless unless its EXACTLY the same vehicle. saying "I saw tahoes selling for 15% off MSRP at dealer X!" eliminates that variable.

I just wish Laura Buick was closer to WA state. I noticed prices have gone up in last couple days on SLT by roughly 4k and Denali price is level at Laura Buick. It appears on the XL's they have sold roughly 15 units in last couple weeks, ( I have been looking consistently)... which for the 2nd largest dealer in US..doesn't seem like a lot to me...maybe I am wrong.

Hmm that's interesting. I still don't look at it like that. I mean, I'm saying thousands off msrp vs percent. And I just looked on cars.com, from their asking price and MSRP it's about $7k difference that I'm frequently seeing. Calculate it to percentage if it makes you feel better idk lol and there were a million more variables that went into my deal of $11k off. A Chevy dealer in New Mexico. It's a different market here for sure.

there were a million more variables that went into my deal of $11k off. A Chevy dealer in New Mexico. It's a different market here for sure.

And perhaps $11k off is good. You won't really know unless you compare exactly the same MSRP vehicles OR, simply compare what percentage off MSRP SIMILAR vehicles are selling for.

Percentage off MSRP is the great equalizer and and diverting focus elsewhere is a dealer tactic.

Two people could get $11k off MSRP but if MSRP's were different (they almost always are) then it's a pretty meaningless number. If they both got 10% off msrp then they got a the same deal. Even if MSRPS differ.

Dealers hate the % game and try to confuse the issue by changing focus: "hey come on, we took $7k off! What a deal! The last guy only got $4k off!" Not telling you that the last guy got 20% off and you're getting 10% [which would indicate that you still have a lot more room to negotiate]

I negotiated for $11k off for about a year and half... $11k off is definitely good, regardless of what it's msrp is. :D:grd: And on a 2017 unit in Feb of 2017, that's pretty good. A common discount I'm seeing right now across all trims and models is $7k off MSRP. That's all I was trying to get at...
