I have a 2003 Suburban LT. Last year I had a 12V air compressor hooked up to one of the front outlets. It started smoking from behind the dash. It was parked shortly after that because the transfer case went out. Before it was parked, we had trouble with the blower motor, so I replaced it. I also replaced the resistor (an updated version), but it still had issues intermittently. I just got it going again, and forgot about that issue until today, when it refused to work. I’m thinking when the socket wiring got too hot, it burnt and/or shorted some wiring behind the dash. I read somewhere that the wiring back there is prone to heat damage.

Here’s my question: How easy is it to get behind the dash to check the wiring. I’m hoping there’s a way to check it without taking the entire dash off, but I have a feeling that may not work very well. That’s usually how my luck works. Lol Thanks in advance for any help.

Start by checking fuses. you should be able to look and see a lot if you remove the vanity cover in front of the cluster / Radio. I had blown a lighter fuse, and it knocked out the OBD Port.
