2005 XL. Always had it and was curious what & why. Only on cold startup and goes away after you drive it. Mentioned it when I picked it up from Dealer for something else and they say "normal". Just wondered after all these years what it is.

look for broken bolts on the exhaust manifolds, when cold they shrink a hair, when they warm up it expands again and seals up any tiny leaks

Look for soot around the exhaust manifolds which are evidence of exhaust leaks.

Agree.. mine had this issue when I bought in 2018. Found I had 3 broken exhaust bolts. This required new ARH Longtube Headers to be installed in place of the factory exhaust manifolds. Now, sounds as a LS engine should. Oh, and no more of the ticking noises, of the exhaust leaking out due to the manifold's broken bolts.. So, it may be a pricey fix for you, sorry to say..

"Whop whop" and definitely not a "woo woooo?"

Definitely telling you to go get some delicious Italian food. And maybe park next to one of those sexy Italian cars.

I'd guess a real tight valve guide that loosens up when it gets warm. Holds a valve open just a bit. Better too tight like this than too loose. (these guys are sure having fun with this though)

Idk if you’ve got one, but I’ve noticed my esky and my Seville doing it. Seems to be secondary air injection motor/module for emission.
