So I'm in the market for a Sub, Tahoe, or Yukon. Is there a difference in which plant it made. I noticed there was Janesville, Arlington and Mexico. Is there one to avoid? Particular issues from one plant and not others? Thanks.

Not that I'm aware of; the answer to such a question would likely be known by those very experienced and familiar with these trucks. Mine's a Texan.

now there's something for you to ponder on.

@Lanewvr

are you aware of any such anomalies that may exist between make/model and the location from which it was manufactured across other brands? I would be interested in some examples, if anyone would be so kind as to inform us.

You didn't say what year. Mine is also a Texan. as far as I know the Silao GTO MEX plant only produces trucks no suvs. I drove past that plant a couple of years ago, big place.too bad GM only pays them 15.00 usd a day.

I thought that by 2009 they were all made in Arlington. The 2500s were consolidated after a certain year and all built at Arlington if memory serves.

According to my build sheet, it’s plant J? J for Janesville? Or is that not how GM labeled plants?

Arlington is plant R. They got a Texas sticker, too. Yeehaw!

The VIN also let's you know where built.

During WW2 the American submarines were built across the nation at various yards and some developed better ruputations than others. Some yards lost a higher percentage of boats built to enemy action. Liberty or Victory ships built at certain yards with more brittle steel were more prone to their hulls cracking in cold and heavy seas; same for some T-2 tankers. People familiar with the communist SKS rifles knows that the quality of these rifles vary greatly depending on where and when they were made.

Having said that I think it remarkable that these complex vehicles come out so uniform despite being built in different countries by the hands of people with varying degrees of education and culture; maybe even better than McDonalds which offers much simpler products!

I was referring to the 2001 to 2006, but its helpful for all years to know.

I worked at a GM plant for a few years, till my shift was cut. I know there can be small differences, like one plant may have been using more sealant than another. Or a fixture used may have been slightly different than the other.
