I've had this 2019 Yukon Denali with 40K miles one week. Yesterday I had a 1.5" spacer installed in the front lower strut and an alignment at an speciality shop in Dallas. Today I noticed grease on the paint, the wheels, then I located a ^&%$ ton of grease under the IFS steering boot that connects to the hub. I don't see any gaping holes in that boot and I've cleaned this thing twice and been under it, never noticing this mess. You'd think the offroad shop would have notified me of this which makes me think it's happened since I left there last night at 6:00 pm.

Any ideas what this is and where it's coming from?

Your CV shaft had a hemorrhage and lost grease, most likely.

Nailed it!

And pretty slim chance in hell it happened from "wear" with that low of mileage, that's "fresh damage"

I don't see a shop covering that. Right or wrong, I just don't see it.

That can look fresh simply because of the clean looking grease coming out of there. Is it likely the shop, sure, but I just don't think they will step up and cover it. I could be wrong though and wish you luck.

this is why I always look at my vehicle real good before I even drive away after having work done on it, I have found tools several times, loose wires and hoses, engine cover was missing one time.

The shop was very cool about it. Ordered a new part and is putting it in tomorrow. They aren't admitting fault but see that logic would put them as the culprit since this car just went through extended warranty cert with a fine tooth comb the week before. I had the dealership look at it to see if my extended warranty would cover, and they said no. $750 quote. Bottom line it's good to see small businesses treating the customer with respect and if anyone needs a lift shop in the Dallas area I'm happy to share my specific contact at this place. I'll be going back to them for sure.

I am both surprised and happy that they will cover it. Great for you.

That's a great result! Hard to find honest work these days. Just out of curiosity since I'm in Dallas as well, what shop is it? You can PM me if you'd rather.

Thank goodness for the documentation on the detailed inspection the week before. May or may not have made a difference but I'm sure it helped. The shop is doing the right thing. Might let them know you put in a good word on a very active GM forum with lots of members.

That’s awesome news they are covering it. They just got a customer for life. One thing I’d like to mention is you should insist on an OEM part. I know on earlier years, the aftermarket CV axles are only about $50 but an ACDelco is about $250. I know because I replaced both of mine and although the extra cost hurt, I figured the originals had 160k on them and I wanted at least that much out of the new ones.
Edit: I see I’m too late, the part is already installed.

$750 for what?

Only takes about an hour to swap it out and the last shaft I bought was through World Pac and it was $250

The shop was All Out Offroad in Richland Hills. I was impressed with how they treated me and squeezed me back in the schedule to resolve this issue quickly. It's pretty clear they are a "customer is always right" organization. I can't speak for all employees or locations but I would for sure recommend you look into them if you are in Texas. It's smart business, because just as I am telling you positive marketing right now, in today's age reviews in the other direction can steer biz away pretty quick. I plan to post some pictures when I get this Black RST/Graphite Edition window trim install today. It's looking just like my sierra did, but Yukon style.
