When does a 2022 become a 2023?

I ordered a 2022 Denali, sat at 2000 for months, my dealer said GM will be building it as a 2023, the TPW isn't known since I want the Duramax. So far so good. I was talking with a buddy over the weekend, he ordered a 2022 Denali XL with a Duramax in February, wasn't built, it is at status 1035, but his dealer said they can't resubmit it as a 2023 until sometime in August. I think his dealer is pulling his leg telling him not until August, or is because mine was already accepted by GM and his wasn't?

I ordered a 2022 Yukon XL earlier this Spring. It sat at 1100 status and then was converted to a 2023 on June 30th, which is now at 1100 status.
