This is the full length of the first switch I pulled, with the airbag removed. No matter what I try, it’s just not even close to plugging back in. I don’t see any way to reattach this plug. only way I can see to do this is extend the wires.. guess that’s what I’ll do.

What I did was take the switch apart and actually assemble it in the hole

Since you already pulled the airbag, pull the clock spring and then you can disconnect the harness and pull it out through the hole, then install the switch, pull the harness back through and reconnect it. You were right there, almost had it.

I got them all in by assembling in the holes. I’m so glad that’s done! On another note.. I had the memory saver hooked up, while I did this, and now when I go to start the truck, I get that unknown driver crap, and she starts and then dies. [emoji35][emoji2959] fug

I've also read that disconnecting the battery cables and touching them together, then re-attaching them to the battery, will fix this. I don't have any firsthand knowledge of that, though. Curious if any of that works.....

Ok. So it did this when I was installing the new HU. After I plugged everything in, went to give it some juice, and it did the same thing. So I pulled the main harness from the HU, and voila, all the lights come on and I’m again, “Driver 1”. Seems like something in the HU locks it up, and as soon as I pulled power it was good. I also noticed that the HU side light stayed lit the entire time I was working on it w/ just the memory saver plugged in. Not sure what the hell the deal is but I’m back in business. It’s a good thing I roll with a few tools in the back.. [emoji15][emoji2957]

So back to work.. I’ve got a couple more blue LEDs I missed yesterday..

I really want to do this on mine. Probably going to order a clear/white cluster background with trans temp and add the gauge while I'm in there. I want to do white LEDs and it sounds like just the cluster has the blue film. Is that correct?

I know this is too late, but it's really not a very difficult job to pull the steering wheel. I can do it in less than 5 minutes, then the wiring can be loosened up from the back and the switches are pretty easy. Something I learned long ago is that a little additional disassembly can make the job much easier, and usually quicker even counting the extra disassembly.

AFAIK the cluster has actual blue LEDs installed as well. Pretty sure, but I didn’t do that, as I purchased it for the trans temp gauge as well. But pretty sure there’s a blue film over the PRND321, and the rest are just blue LEDs

The cluster is incandescent bulbs. My dad had ours apart years ago to replace the stepper motors. The DIC and shift indicatiors are separate screens. Cant't change the backlight on those.

So did you do the cluster or did you have somebody else do it?

*I see now you said that you didn't do the cluster. From the factory they're incandescent and from what I have read they have a light blue film (makes the incandescent appear more white). With blue you wont notice it, but white LEDs would actually look baby blue. Thats why a lot of people use blue instead, I just don't love it personally.

Projects like the back light bulb upgrade, deserve a thread of their own. Cool things like this, get buried quick in a thread like this.

@Sam Harris, you've locked and unlocked with your usual remote?
This method seemed to fix it when I had the anti-theft light (another time I had the HU out) but this time it was just not doing anything it was supposed to, and no anti-theft light. I really think there’s something locking it up in the HU. Maybe the BCM is looking for a signal from the factory HU to show its ok, and that’s not happening because it’s no longer there. I dunno. Like I said, I’m glad I carry a few tools with me. If it happens again, I guess I know what has to be done. Lol.

Actually, all the incandescent bulbs have a blue tint over them. The cluster was replaced with LEDs, and I bought it that way. I believe there is also a film over the PRND321, to give it less glare, from the factory. Here’s my pile of incandescent bulbs and broken pieces from the last 2 days. Lol

Ok. I ran out of LEDs so had to order more. Damn it. Well, took care of the fog light bulb:

I also thought this part should be lit up..

It’s got a clear film over it, but there doesn’t seem to be any light to shine through there..?

Only thing in the area is this little tiny one, and I’m not sure it’s working:

Anyway, done for now until I get more LEDs in..

Oh yeah, my oil pressure gauge is pegged at 80 AGAIN.. I don’t get it. It was pegged when I bought it last September, since then, replaced with 1 “Standard”, then an AC Delco, 5-6 months later it was warrantied, and replaced with another AC Delco, and now it’s crapped out again. Wtf is with this..?
