First oil change on the Suburban and I’ll tell ya... What a freaking shitshow. I’d love to meet the grease pit gorilla who changed the oil last time. :biggun:

Drain plug hardly moved even with a 12” breaker bar and even then it was touch and go, since the socket was twisting off the head.

Finally got it off and it looks like it’s had a hard life in the last five years, so had to drive to AutoZone to get a new one.

Next in line was the filter and the same damn thing continued. :banghead: Mangled my trusty old filter wrench to shit and it didn’t move a bit. Had to use my 12” channellocks to get it out. Luckily there was just enough room to fit them there.

What a PITA, but at least it’s done. Should be helluva lot easier next time around. :favorites68:

Emptied catch can for the first time, too, and not too much stuff in it. Maybe 1/4 cup.

Sorry to read this but not surprised.
I posted before in the past when I first took home my CPO Tahoe I went to change the oil and the Chevy dealership had used air tools to tighten on the filter as well. Couldn’t get it off with any of my wrenches and had to hammer a screwdriver through the entire filter and twist it off that way..
Why I never trust anyone else to work on my vehicles.

Hell yeah! :anitoof: There I was thinking about a quick 30-40 minute job which in the end took me almost two hours with a trip to AZ and working meticulously trying not to break things that were put on with an impact gun or something. Definitely called for a beer or two or three.

Yeah I think that's the best part, those times when simple projects go awry and you conquer. Let that oil drain down the funnel while you take a swig and nod your head up and down like "yeah *****" a boss. LOL

I have been running a Fumoto valve for 5 years without issue. I do not even use jack stands or ramps anymore for oil changes. I highly recommend getting one. I use the Fram Extra Guard oil filters with the grip. I use no tools on my oil changes. Just FYI.

I had to replace the postive battery cable on my 2015 Tahoe. I have been starting it for about two months now with the "Service 4x4" light coming on upon start up. Then it was "Stabilitrack" light. This past weekend the dash and radio would flicker, along with the windshield wipers moving. The nail in the coffin was me putting it into park and it shutting off like someone unplugged the car.

I drove 1400miles on it without another issue. It starts better too.

I have toyed around with the Fumoto idea for years now. Just never gotten around to it. Maybe one of these days... :help:

This just happened to me on my 2015 LTZ with just under 110k. I’ve seen all of those plus service driver assist. Gonna do the same, cheers to you.

May want to check the neg cable too. "Ghost" problem's were running through mine. New ground & another ground added. No problems after.

What do you guy's do to lower the transmission temperature down on these rigs ? Mine see's up to 194 degrees. Too hot for my liking.

I’ve seen good results with this mod year round:
https://globaltransmissionparts.com/6l80-6l90-sure-cool-cooler-flow-system-stl010/
It basically makes the ATF always circulate through the cooling circuit. My temperatures were 140-150 F in the highway during summer, 110 F in South Dakota winter. Some factors to consider before you do the mod:
1) does your rig have active grille shutters?
2) does it have the max tow package with oil-to-air transmission cooler?

Anecdotally the same 6l80e in Silverado prior to 2014 did not have the thermostat in the cooling line. I wouldn’t worry too much about the temperature and just replace the fluid and filter every 40k miles. My new Sequoia runs hotter, somewhere between 200 and 220 F. I will be switching to 100% synthetic Amsoil when the warranty runs out.

And finally, the option for the most paranoid (also me): get one of the vacuum oil suction devices and replace 1 gallon of ATF with every oil change through the dipstick. 1 gallon of Dexron VI is about $29 on Summit Racing.

After 4 months of waiting, my Bilstein 5100's finally arrived this week. Today I had the chance to get them installed.
Took probably 4 hours. Always quicker to do the second side (only 45 minutes) after you spend so long figuring out how to do the first side.
Hardest part was getting the strut lined up just right, needed to do a 180 after the first time I went to install it.
I rented a spring compressor from Oreilly's and that was the most stressful and exhausting part. Mostly exhausting because I had to compress the spring about 4 times until I figured out how everything had to line up.
Next most important part was keeping track of which way the top of the strut was facing when you pulled it out. The 3 bolts are spaced apart differently. Two are 4.25" apart, and one is 4.5" apart. Gotta get it just right.

Anyway, love the way it's turned out. Night and day difference in driving characteristics - zero sloppy feeling when turning or when going over a dip/bump.
Glad I waited so long for these - worth it.
Pic attached, top is stock, bottom is with the 5100's at the highest setting of 1.6" lift.
