I'd go, I visited last September, super clean beach compared to NJ, folks said stay away from the Norfolk area for buying. Bunch of nice outer lying areas Suffolk etc. Southern friendliness is nice, slower pace takes a bit to get used to.
I'm from PA.

Never been for longer than a few minutes. My parents live a little north off route 13, love the general area though

Born and raised. What do you want to know?

Is the closest dragstrip really an hour and a half away(va or nc)? I think I would be going to Langley Speedway, often.
Is it a good place to raise a family? We have 8 y/o twin boys. Probably rent a townhouse, at first.
The money will be good, so no hurry for me to get a good job. Plus, with no family down there, I would have to play Mr. Mom.
What part do you live in?

thanks

Yea there isn't really a close drag strip and the closest one is an eighth mile. I live in what they are calling "town center"...there's 3 high rise buildings surrrouned by upscale restaraunts, bars, and retail. Hampton roads orr the 7 cities is a huge melting pot as we have several large military installations. VB is the most expensive to live in because no matter what part you're in you're no more than 10 to 15 minutes away from the beach. We have a population of over a half a million and that more than doubles during the summer from tourism. I love it here and it is a prettyy good area to raise a family. Of course everywhere has its good parts and bad parts. Hope this helps and if you have any other questions just let me know

fyremanpat is right... i've lived in Va Beach since i was 2... i lived right next to NAS Oceana and got used to the jets.. but now i live closer to Norfolk (pronounced Nor'****) and i don't hear a single jet fly over... there are good places to live, for middle income families Kempsville is a nice place, i'd stay away from Va Bch Blvd area in general... there are some nice places like Town Center but thats about it... if your ok with comuting i'd go with Chesapeake.... Greenbier area... or if you have some money to spend Shore Drive is a nice area and right next to the beach (not the tourist beach but the locals area.. thats where i keep my beach catamaran)... Suffolk is going to be a headache of a commute... if you have any questions just ask...

But but ... your username will be nonsensical, the confusion it will burn! :)

Actually VB is nice, a little wacky during spring break though ... At least it used to be, I haven't been there in years.

Back now. Drove down tues, drove back on thurs.

Actually really liked a house not far from NAS. The school is great and really close Lots of kids. I got the 8 y/o boys, so thats good. Its a rental and the realtors getting back to us. Its kinda wooded behind the house and I hear the Kmart is on the other side.

Went to MotoWorld. The kart park. Cool place.

I will be getting lost like crazy when we move. Lots of hussel, bussel, retail, and highways. Over all liked everything we saw.

I grew up right near NAS Oceana... What neighborhood are you looking at? Ocean Lakes or Red Mill? As long as you love Jet Noise you should be ok... but you will get used to it.. just have to pause while on the phone till the jets gone.. LOL

Near the Bow Creek Rec Center. We'll be down there for good July 7th'ish.
