Hey Guys,

I've added custom touches throughout my whole Yukon XL Denali, I have a chrome bug deflector, chrome mirror caps, tint, and I plan on getting chrome door handles (just the handle part.)

Anywho, the other day I looked at the back of my truck and realized that it looks like a completely stock Yukon Denali from the back.

I have been debating on what to do about the vent caps, whether to paint them black to match my truck, or whether to buy the smooth ones (Escalade style). The only issue with painting them or using the smooth ones is, I have a 2006, so there's that rough piece of plastic that goes across the top part of the back window, around the 3rd brake light. So I don't want to buy new caps, or paint mine, and have that ugly rough plastic not match. Would I have to have a body shop sand and bondo it to make it smooth? Or do they sell something? I'd rather not remove it, I think it helps give the truck a nice shape.

My last question is, where's the best place to get aftermarket tail lights?

Thanks guys.

Personnally, I am NOT digging a bug deflector in general, a chrome one makes it even worse.

Same with chrome door handles and mirror caps, it just does not look good IMO. (But hey, to each their own).

ESKY vent caps are not smooth, as they still have an opening in order to take the air pressure out of the vehicle. However, there are some smooth aftermarket caps available, some guys here on the forum do have them.

In regards to the 3rd brake light trim piece, YES, it should be sanded smooth by a body shop and painted to match. Have a look at my album, as I did exactly that and I think it looks great.

I bought my aftermarket LED tails on eBay, there is a big variety for our trucks listed.

Hope this helps.

Throw up some pix of the ride. Not very partial to all of the chrome accessories either. Jochen gave you some good info-not much to add to it. If you do the Esky rear ventcaps or appliques as they are called you could swap out the entire back glass from a NBS Escalade to have a matching third brake light. Third brake lights are NOT interchangeable between glasses-the mounting holes are different. The glass is a direct swap though. Search the exterior section-loads of threads, info and pix about mods, lighting, etc.

Thanks for the reply,

I have the bug deflector for the ridiculous amounts of stones that are kicked up by other vehicles in my state. A lot of our roads in Pennsylvania are under construction. I don't have the kind of mirror caps typically seen, my Fiance' actually hooked me up with ones that actually cover the entire mirror. It makes it look like I replaced my whole mirror. I haven't done the door handles... still debating I guess. I should post a more recent picture of my truck.

I did see some tail lights that I like, but I'm unsure of how they'll look once they're in. And I guess it shouldn't cost too much to have a body shop sand and paint the part for me. I think I like the smooth caps better. I'd like to do it all in one shot. I had no idea those vent covers actually served a purpose.

Also, I wasn't a fan of the chrome caps at first. I live on kind of a small street, and some butthead with a UHaul truck hit my mirror (while it was folded) and it cracked the painted plastic. My Fiance' felt really bad and bought the chrome ones for my birthday.
