Torque management simply reduces engine timing, therefore reducing power, during upshifts to prolong the life of the transmission. It is not pulling power all of the time.

With my first tuner, not Wheatley, he took it out completely and my transmission lasted 6 months before it started slipping, and this was with a muffler and intake.

I would never recommend taking out more than 75% on a stock (not built) 60E.

In general. Too many people post that their MPG is horrible asking why. And they floor it any chance they get. It's the same principal with people that complain that trans blow abs rear ends explode @donYukon. I get great MPG rolling 35s. Now I am as slow as a loaded Mac truck missing granny gear off the line. But I slow roll starts because I know it eats fuel and is added stress in the drive train. Plus it gets me to the destination no quicker. So I roll easy then give more gass once going.

Now if you try and time trial 0-60 your 5k# SUV on a stock trans at every stop light sure thing it is not going to last.

The main point is the way an individual drives the vehicle is the biggest variable.

Beat on stock parts and they will fail.

My deal with torque management is you have to use it the correct way. Reduce the amount managed in a tune and you will feel more power but you can also abuse it and damage your trans and drive train.

My statement of EFI lIve for a tube vs a OBD generic map tune is that each of these trucks runs a tad different and those box tubers give a generic map taylored to be generic across the board they tend to not yield the same potential as a vehicle specific tune. Yes they box tuners are cheap but you get a cheap tune.

Bottom line if you are tuned specific to your vehicle and it's setup and the way you drive. Then you will be much happier.

All this is true. I mentioned earlier that we had ours tuned down to 20%. The wife is the main driver of the vehicle so I know it's driven pretty easy with regards to acceleration. When I drive, I try to go easy with it, as well. We do have the sport mode with NO torque management but I've only been on that less than a handful of times. I would not suggest running around with 0 torque management all the time unless you're very easy on the throttle and don't tow at all. The reason they have it on there to begin with is in an effort to make the 4L60e last longer which in stock form is not the strongest trans in the world so use your noodle a little bit and common sense will be your guide :)

Bottom line, the 4L60E is a weak transmission and should never have been put in a 5-6,000lb. vehicle. GM's solution to give these weak transmissions some more life is torque management. Some last longer than others and put up with more abuse. I killed one 60E on stock power and another three (two built ones) with the blower. And I don't abuse it and go WOT maybe five times A YEAR, it's just a weak transmission! I have a seriously built 4L60E designed to support 200hp more than I'm making, and I still have 50% of my tq management left in.

In summary, take out all the tq management if that's what you want. But don't be surprised if it starts slipping after a few years, or in my case, six months.

The Torque Management setting for the GM 4 speed trannys is the torque management applied during shifts. You have settings for all 3 shifts and they range from -20 to +20. Interestingly enough it appears that going negative ADDS torque management and going positive removes it. The parameter is called "torque reduction" so I suppose that means on the positive side you are ADDIDNG more torque reduction.

When I got the tune on my burb it was like a whole new vehicle. I could finally step out and accelerate. Then when in sport mode it was a beast. I've only used the sport mode tune a handful of times, though, cuz it makes me drive like I'm 16 again

sport mode? i got mine bb tuned last september/october... didnt hear about a sport mode!

quite honestly, i dont know if its just me, i dont feel like it made a huge difference like everyone else says. or maybe because i got it tuned only a couple of months after buying it haha.

I feel the same way. I don't feel any difference, stock actually drove better.

I have a 2011, not sure if that makes any difference, but yeah, no real difference I feel... and whenever i try to get on it, its like the car takes a LONG think and then finally decides to drop a gear and go

Sounds like you need more tuning to your TCM IMO

I'm not sure either.
My biggest problem is this lunging. From a stop to accelerating it just goes like a bat outta hell. I almost hit a car while parking over the weekend pulling into a space because it just decided to go when I tapped the gas to pull into the space. My wife just about sh*t herself. And at 50 it speeds up until about 55 and then cruises.

Do you think this could have something to do with torque management?

I run 87. I have no idea what autocal is.
I do know I have about $800 invested in this tuning and as of know, I'm pretty disgusted.

Are you still running the tune from the other company?
