What would be a reasonable dealer charge for changing transmission oil and differential fluid.

Dealer recommended that I change both. I am at 30K miles, driving mostly in city (Southern California). I understand that the transmission oil needs change, but does differential fluid need change at all?

Yes they should both be changed now. At my shop the labor to drain and fill the diff would be $41.00 (.5) and we use BG Synthetic gear oil which is around $35.00 a quart, but you could use Mobil 1 gear lube which is about $10.00 a quart. You will ned right around 3. For the transmissin fush we would do a BG trans flush which is a 100% fluid change including the torque converter. The price for that is around $300.00 ( so high due to the type of trans fluid) that includes 17 quarts of Dexron VI (6) a flush chemical,a conditioner and the labor

Thanks for info. The dealer quoted $150 plus taxes and fees for transmission fluid flush (w/o filter and gasket change) and $150 plus taxes and fees for differential fluid change with GM recommended synthetic oil. This dealer said that the gasket don't need to be changed at 30K. If any dealer says you do, they advised you are getting ripped off. I think this price is reasonable. Other two dealers quoted $200 for tranny and $200 for differential fluid.

re. differential fluid change. I didn't see anywhere in the manual the fluid need changed at certain mile. I know you do need to change for rear wheel drive cars, but it's weird that the manual doesn't say so. What do you think?

The dealer wanted to charge me $750 for the front/rear diff, transfer case, brake fluid, oil change and air filter.....They told me it was a required service and that if i didn't my warranty could be void. I did the service, did a little digging in the manual and asked the service mgr to show me where all the services were outlined and required. He stuttered, took me into his office, then offered a 50% discount. I'm not looking for a handout, but i have NEVER come across a dealership that has any level of integrity.
