Hope all are having a good day,

I am new here (although I have lurked just reading for a while) and I have seen a couple posts similar on the forum but nothing fitting my exact situation. I have an '18 Yukon XL (6L80, 5.3) with 3.08 diffs and the single-speed MP3010 transfer case. I would like to attempt to swap out the MP3010 for the MP3023 two-speed; from what I can find the front and rear driveshafts are the same as well as their spline counts and the TC mounting hardware. What I am struggling to find info on is the electronic side of it; I cannot find a lot of info on if significant software reflashes are needed or if they are even possible for this generation. I know I will need the transfer case, transfer case control knob, and a transfer case control module (probably will try to obtain all parts from a junkyard donor truck).

If anyone knows what kind of difficulty this will have beyond the basic swap of components I would love some insight! I saw someone successfully did it on a GMT900 (MP3010->MP3023) but I have not found anything for the K2XX trucks.

Thank you for the response! All the swap info I could find over there was for older generation trucks (caveat that the search function on Tahoe Yukon is better and easier to use so I could have missed something). If anyone has been able to find more than I could, I would really appreciate being pointed in that direction. The software part I am concerned about would be stabilitrak, traction control, and the 4WD monitor on the dash not working properly.

For $300 I would jump on it and figure out how later. You won’t find anything cheaper than $300 for sure. If it does not work out you can always sell the parts and get your money back.

I would sure like to swap the full time 4x4 unit in my 2008 Denali for a 2 speed transfer case but have not seen a simple swap plan yet. If I do it I want it to look and function like it was OEM.

I could be wrong for sure, but i think the problem will be it running through the BCM.
If the BCM needs to be programmed for the 2 speed TC GM will not let you do it because the vehicle was not manufactured with a 2 speed TC and will not give you the option to do it.

Well, if I were doing this there's two things I would do. First, get a subscription to AllDataDIY for at least one kind of truck if not both to get access to the wiring diagrams for each.

Then I would get the VIN number of yours and that donor truck and plug them in to the ACDelco TDS system and see what the programming differences are for all of the related components.

Once that leg work is out of the way, you'll know what's involved to make it happen.

Great advice, thank you!

I have a book with the wiring schematics I need. I can snag a J2534 cable off amazon for $170 and run SPS2 through it for another $45 (although I've never done that before) if needed for programming. on top of the $300 for the hardware that puts me over $500 so I think I will be holding off til after tax season to make this happen for the sake of disposable income.

I know it is/was possible on the GMT900s so I'm banking on it also working on the next gen K2XX trucks but I am rolling the dice a bit...

Yep, definitely possible on the 900s - I'm one of the lucky ones that's done it. Plug and play on that platform. Change T-case, module, and dash switch. No wiring or module programming required. Here's my thread:

For some reason the 2-speed module I got from e-bay prevented my remote start from working. Weirdly, that module worked fine for it's actual function, but it caused some kind of fault that made it so remote start wouldn't proceed after doing its list of diagnostics. So it took me a long time - months - to connect that the t-case module was causing the problem. (I don't use remote start that often) Replaced the used OEM module with a Dorman replacement and no problems since. Here's my thread on that:

I really hope it's as easy on a K2xx as it is on a 900. Good luck.

Update to my situation:

I obtained a transfer case and TCCM with the new dial to put into my truck (the TCCM was already programmed for an MP3023, just not specific to my VIN). I completed the swap and the truck drove completely normally in 2Hi, Auto, and 4Hi. Oddly enough, it would (without any reprogramming) let me go into 4Lo by going to neutral, then the tcase would make some noise, then the dash would indicate 4Lo engaged. The problem starts here. 4Lo was actually not engaged despite the truck saying that it was. Stabilitrac and traction control were both disengaged with the spedometer reading far lower (over 2x lower) than it should because the truck was in 4Hi despite the dash and switch dial indicating the truck in 4Lo. There are no errors to indicate problems with the setup other than the fact the transfer case won't go in neutral or 4Lo despite indicating that it has been put into neutral if I hold on the N for ten seconds or indicating 4Lo if I turn the dial and put the truck in neutral.

Is it possible I got scammed and sold an MP3010 that the seller advertised as an MP3023? He claimed it was out of a '17 Chevy Silverado and showed me the RPO sheet for the vehicle which included 'NQH'.

Is it also possible that I just need a tcase encoder relearn?

I was pretty surprised when I plugged everything in and it all worked no problem, but the issue is the only features that properly work are the ones the truck already had and not the 4Lo or tcase neutral.

Also I don't know if its relevant but I hear a lot of very high pitched noises (although very quiet) that sound like they are coming from the TCCM that weren't there with the old TCCM. Again, no error codes, just doesn't actually go into 4Lo despite the dash saying it does.

Unfortunately a relearn didn’t fix anything. Still will show 4Lo on the dash as well as through the scan tool. Leads me to think I got scammed by the guy showing me an RPO sheet from the truck it supposedly came out of when it didn’t actually come from that truck.

For my clarity, you have not done any programming, right?
No, I replaced the TCCM from a truck with the same specs and same generation just with the NQH option to see if I could avoid programming and I do not have any errors. The dash properly indicates 4Lo as if it is in gear along with the message to place the truck in neutral; all behaves as it should on the electronics side including even the actuator position sensor properly reporting position.

Should be a tag on the tc showing what it is.
Unfortunately no. Only had the manufacturer broadcast tag on it when I got it (with a bunch of numbers that didn’t return anything meaningful when searched on ACDelco’s website or just on google).

I verified last night it is a single-speed. Guess I’m still in the market for a two-speed tc.

Ultimately on me for not looking at the tcase better and going through with it when there were a couple signs of sketchiness there.

Update: current roadblock is that I am having a really hard time selling this tcase. Need to get the extra tcase I have sold before I buy another NQH tcase to finish the project. Havn't gotten any interested buyers on Marketplace or Craigslist. Just trying to get ~$250 for it at this point; just need a bit of extra cash and the extra space. Any ideas on where else I could try to sell it would be much appreciated!

Got a question for anyone who might have the knowledge: will a tcase from an 8L90 work on a 6L80? Same spline count, same internals, same electronics, but the spline depth is slightly different; I found a youtube video saying this should work but I'd like to try and find another opinion.
