So im having a hard time finding a clear answers or im not searching the right things. My 99 k1500 burb 4x4 has the auto trac 246 t case. My parts vehicle has a 243 t case but also had the auto 4wd button in it cause i took it out and am using it currently. Whats the difference between the two t cases? Only differnece between the the two vehicles is mine is a gmc and the parts one was a chevy. Can i use the 243 t case? Even if i loose the auto 4wd feature im ok with that.

What research have you done online? Are they the same dimensions with the same mounting points? If this was your first foray into information gathering I would then go to GM Heritage Center and download the brochure for your year or as close to it as you can for starters and check inside the pdf for the information you're looking for.

Pretty much the same dimension wise but because you have autotrak you must use the the 246 from 98-99 otherwise it won’t work right or at all. Just replaced my tc not too long ago, the hardest part was finding a correct year 246

Well thats what i cant figure out. My parts burban had the auto 4x4 buttons in it because im using that switch now but the t case that came out of it says 243 not 246. They were identical year and everything. Top picture is the case currently in my burb bottom one is the one that came out of the parts burb. How did two almost identical vehicles get 2 different t cases. Will i be able to use the 243 should i need it or should i sell it

Yea I don’t know, that’s usually an option kind of thing, usually depending on engine, brake package, gear ratio, whether or not it has a towing package and what part of 1999 the truck was built will all play into what transfer case they put in it.
